He only has 6 PP pointsWho is he replacing on the PP?
In Edmonton PP2 plays maybe 20 seconds.

great teams don't overpay for their 8th forward, and they certainly don't get attached to them. that's how to slam a competitive window shut. vegas and tampa apply that rule to their 4th forwards, haha.
SKinner was a calculated risk...but Holloway would have the same issue in Edmonton. Skinner isn't playing where he needs to be to be productive and he can't break in because the top 6 is basically set. Holloway definitely would not be getting the minutes and chance he is in the St Louis in Edmonton.
Skinner hasnt been that bad, he isn't scoring, but he is't playing in the top 6 and he isn't as bad defensively as people make out. Also, his contract is over at the end of the year. Skinner wasn't given a real run in the top 6 after October ( when the whole team was struggling).
again, holloway is a good player, but when considering the oilers, he was inherently replaceable as in replaceable in the lineup.

agreed fully on the bolded - holloway is doing great in 16 minutes of ice time in st. louis with real powerplay minutes - he'd get no PP and 10-12 minutes in edmonton. that's a different situation, and he maybe puts up a respectable 20 points in that same scenario, but not meaningfully better than skinner has.
The top 6 has Podkolzin in it and you don’t think Holloway might crack that? Not that Podz is bad but he’s not a clear top 6 forward. I understand not matching on Holloway because he’d only shown flashes of his play this year, and maybe he doesn’t improve without the move, but if he was playing as he currently is in Edmonton, I don’t see how he isn’t a great fit with Drai. He wouldn’t get quite as many minutes, but he’s only playing roughly 1.5 minutes more than Podz at 5v5 anyway.
The Oilers gave him chances in the top 6 and he didn't do much, at least not much to help them win games. It's easier to be a good player on a bad team. McLeod, Broberg, Holloway all better now on weaker teams. It's possible that this season a few of them could have played better and filled a role better on the Oilers but they didn't really show enough when the Oilers had them unfortunately.I really like Holloway's overall game. He has shown good speed, hands, and is defensively responsible. He would have had to be in Edmonton's top six in order to put up these types of numbers. That just wasn't going to happen up there!
Friedman stated Broberg was asking around $1.8mil and Holloway was asking around $1.2mil. Literally could have kept both players instead of signing Skinner. But they chose to prioritize signing some 30+ UFAs instead of their 23 year old RFAs.I remember there were reports of Broberg asking 3M, and Holloway for 1.5M. Oilers were playing the game of RFA chicken with them trying to bring the price further down. Then the offersheets happened.
Holloway wasn't going to get an opportunity in Edmonton. I would guess the Oilers signed Skinner and Arvidsson precisely because they had lost faith in Holloway being able to claim a top6 role for them.
