If Cozens is a + player coming out of the Toronto series we could win the Cup. I watched Tavares last game, this dude is as hungry as ever. Matthews is one of the better 2 way players in the game. I don't see that intensity or hunger from Cozens, not even close. I think 7 game versus Tavares would be an eye opener for him. If he survives we could win the Cup,

Cozens gets knocked over easily and in puck battles after 1 second he seems to be to tall to see where the puck is and he kinda folds. My concerns aren't when he's chasing the puck or he has the puck it's more when he battles he gets beat way to much and not just beat he gets folded way to much for a dude who is 6'3" and he loses leverage way to easily. He hits a lot and that's fine but its his puck retrieval and the 50/50 battles that I don't like in his game.
Tavares is slow and when the pace picks up he isnt as effective. Cozens will absolutely have to increase his intensity but the point is he has the tools and the feet to make it a hard matchup on Tavares. I think it will be a wake up call and a great challenge for him but if he does respond he has the raw tools to be able to go head to head with him.

Fair about his one on one battles, but if he is first to every loose puck he will have leverage. Tavares is alot like Perron when it comes to battles but when he isnt getting there he isnt great. Nylander doesnt love going to get pucks either so whoever is on that line needs to be fast and needs to get on pucks quickly for it to be successful from a Toronto perspective.

Toronto has a long track record ord of not responding in the playoffs. They don't like getting hit.they don't like having to battle.

The flip side is we have no track record for the core but I'll take no record over record they have.

We've got enough physicality on the back end for a team like Toronto. And we can definitely be more physical than them up front.

I think for Toronto to have a chance, Stolarz has to outplay Ullmark. If the goaltending is even or Ullmark gets the better of it, I think we win.

Cozens has points in 12 of 20 games with us, is our 4th highest scoring player and 2nd highest scoring forward behind Batherson, 1st in PP points, 4th in SOG, 1st in hits, 1st in posts hit, 1st in faceoff wins, 6th amongst forwards in ATOI...

It's been a very solid, albeit somewhat inconsistent start, to his Senator career. I don't see a star but he's a good, useful player.
He definitely came in hot in his first 5 games, then quickly tapered off and in the last 5 games, has been solid.
He has shown some nice chemistry with Batherson & Perron and looks like he can be a good 2C for us.
That said, his contract ($7.1m for the next 5 seasons) might be a concern.

With Pinto (and Greig) continuing to develop, I could easily see those 2 players becoming our 2C & 3C.
I do think Pinto has what it takes to be a solid 2C and I think Greig is better served in the middle and would be an ideal 3C. Where does that leave Cozens? Do you put him out on the wing? Trade him to provide cap flexibility and strengthen other areas?

Obviously, there is going to be a lot of focus on every Sens player come the playoffs but for me, Cozens is going to be near the top of the list. Does he have what it takes?

I do think that a number of our forwards, like Tkachuk, Stutzle, Pinto, Greig, Batherson, Perron, etc., will take their game to the next level. I am just not sure about Cozens.

You put him on the wing. His game already seems much better suited to play on the wing and our RW depth isn't good. Bathertson, an aging Giroux, and Amadio. We don't really have anyone in the pipelines that can fill that spot. I guess Zetterlund can rotate between LW and RW.

I really think the sens success in this series rides on 3 pivotal players. Cozens/Batherson if they can elevate and play to their potential with their size motor and physicality the sens can win. The last is Ullmark. He has to be better than Stolarz. He has to steal one on the road.
I assume you are already counting on the Pinto line to do their thing? I think they may be the single most important forward group.

That said, we need all 3 of our top lines going AND we need Ullmark to be consistently very good to great.

Our defensive game is miles ahead of last year, but the Leafs will get their chances and we need Ullmark to get in their heads.

The Leafs are solid top to bottom and have much for skill than us. Stolarz has been amazing and my worry is we caught the Leafs just when they got a dominant goalie again...we may get Belfour'd or Cujo'd.

I really don't have much faith in Cozens and it makes you wonder why Buffalo would just let him go.

Yeah we know what were gonna get from them. Thats why Cozens and Batherson are wild cards to me, they are inconsistent but some players like that rise to the occasion.

Lol.

What does new have to do with my understanding of hockey and evaluating players?

I've been on hfboards since 2012. Just never used an account.

He had 20 goals in 50 games this year...wouldn't be hard for him to get another 10-15 in 32 games.

Terrible comparison. Giroux is like 40 years old and Norris is 24.
50 games. You just proved my point.

Two big bodies who can be disengaged at times. When they play physical, they can dominate with their mix of size and skill. They could be big factors in this series for sure.

They aren't going to be able to sustain the battle level throughout an entire regular season, but they could hit another level if they bring it in the playoffs.
