If we can find a way to get a 2C (or Greig/Pinto eventually make their way there) I think Cozens could blossom on the wing.

For now Pinto is too important on that 3rd line.

Since March 7th 5v5:

Cozens and Batherson together - 46 CF%, xGF 42%
Cozens without Batherson - 38 CF%, xGF 36%
Batherson without Cozens - 60% CF, xGF 66%

Now to be fair Batherson has better linemates away from Cozens than Cozens does away from Batherson, so I don’t think this tells the full story, but the idea that Cozens is uplifting Batherson has been greatly exaggerated imo. Batherson is the better player as of now, even when you watch them he does so much of the work possession wise in the offensive zone. I think he was bound to come out of the slump/poor stretch of play no matter what had happened.

I do think their similar styles could make them a lethal duo down the road, but Cozens just isn’t there yet. He is young though and you can see the upside.

Yea cozens has simply not been very good here. A lot like what he was in buffalo. Not sure how quickly he can become a dominant 2nd line center. But he’s not young anymore

He plays well when the adrenaline is high it seems. When he started and the game against Montreal he was flying.

Hopefully that bodes well for us in the playoffs. But that’s why I sorta wonder if he just runs out of gas and needs better conditioning. It’s hard to say though because playing that way consistently is easier said than done.

Much of the NHL is able to play really hard like 90% of the time

Some players have a better B game than Cozens. He is either great or pretty damn bad with no middle ground.

So I don’t think it’s that everyone plays harder so much as they learn how to suck less on an off night. Our team actually learned this only this season. I don’t think he is a finished product similar to how our players last season weren’t.

No dude, not a chance. Most guys can’t even play hard 90% of games in which they’re playing hard. It takes waaay too much energy.

I still like Cousins, he’s been solid 2C for us since he got here. If he played the way he did in his first few games over the entire time he’d be a solid 1C.

He’s a key part of the second line humming.

I think part of the issue with him has been poor coaching and development in the Buffalo system. He's also never had a sniff at the playoffs. If he raises his game when it counts, then this is an important attribute.

He was flying tonight! I think if his feet are moving he could be a monster in a playoff style game. Like PlayOn mentioned he seems to be better when the intensity is ramped up.

He could have had a couple goals if not for Knight. Idk how much you can read into it though, bottom feeder team on the back end of a back to back, but like you said, he was moving his feet and it paid off. If he can keep that up in the playoffs, it bodes well for us.

I really think the sens success in this series rides on 3 pivotal players. Cozens/Batherson if they can elevate and play to their potential with their size motor and physicality the sens can win. The last is Ullmark. He has to be better than Stolarz. He has to steal one on the road.

I mean, if Brady is anything like he was during the 4 nations, I think he's going to be pretty pivotal, or we you just taking that for granted?

Im counting on him and Sanderson showing up yeah. When Batherson and Cozens are on they can go head to head against Tavares and Nylander and win that matchup in my opinion. When they are at their best their styles of play are conducive to playoff success.

Cozens has points in 12 of 20 games with us, is our 4th highest scoring player and 2nd highest scoring forward behind Batherson, 1st in PP points, 4th in SOG, 1st in hits, 1st in posts hit, 1st in faceoff wins, 6th amongst forwards in ATOI...

It's been a very solid, albeit somewhat inconsistent start, to his Senator career. I don't see a star but he's a good, useful player.

I hope there's no planned face off fights .I don't want to give TML any more time on the ice without Brady on for us. Having said that, give me all the shooting and menacing in front of the opposing net that he was doing

Best part of Cozens is his chemistry with Batherson. Batherson is more consistent offensively and is more reliable with Cozens than with Norris.

Batherson was due for a streak and I think seeing a member of the core get traded was a kick in the pants, but he (and Perron) definitely works well off of Cozens
