I'm fine with a futures package.
WHY in the world would the Sabres want NHL ready players to step right in right now? Are the Sabres going to all of a sudden be a top 3 Atlantic team in 2025-2026? Are they going to fight for the 8th seed next year? uhh, no.
Some wouldn't say it is even 80% certain. But, I feel it in my bones they will not be competing for another 2+ years. I even made a poll and the majority said they wouldn't sniff the playoffs for 5+ years.
Give me a late first and a A propsect, if he's even worth that. I'd even add to Cozens to get an even better prospect that has a high ceiling.
"Ohhhh but if they Keep on trading their current NHL talent for futures they will never compete!" I don't believe that line for a second. This compiled group isn't NHL playoff caliber. Move on and try again

It doesn't make sense, we're stuck in a huge rebuild cycle and we need to break it. We can't keep adding picks and prospects, we need to build a team that can actually compete for the playoffs before Dahlin, Thompson and Tuch want to leave.

Because (besides yourself I guess), not only does the overwhelming amount of Sabres fans on this site not want futures, more importantly it's been reported that the Sabres GM wants to make a hockey deal and is not looking for futures.
I tend to not discount fanbases and offer something they don't want when it's been communicated by reporters what they're looking for. (withstanding the possibility that yes, there is GM speak, and sometimes GM go full galaxy brain mode and say one thing and do another).

Because the team has like 3 fans left who still watch games. THEY CANNOT KEEP KICKING THE CAN FORWARD. Any trade that doesn’t make us better today is an immediate, hard no.

Sure he could trade for the right person who might have done some call ups and is nhl ready now.
They have ryan johnson a LD in AHL who us nhl ready. He played last season in bc a call up. Buffalo is stacked at LD currently. They could trade him for a similar RD around same age who is nhl ready
This comment is rather arbitrary
It's not about all in. It's about improving the team with nhl rcperience and not waiting on an adjustment period.

They still have a deep pool of p rrg ospects in the system. A player a team might be offering us a decent prospect, the yh get buried in buffalo.
False--- they have had as n unusual year this year.
They have had a bunch of games they had a 3rd period lead and not come away with 2 pts. They have sbout y games tIED late they got no pts,and with a poor PP going 0-3+ in a game has occured in 10+ 1 goal 3rd period deficits they lost. Each of these groups can add points giving th them 14 additional pts and into playoffs hunt

^^^ To all the posters above who REALLY wanted to trade the Sabres 2025 1st round pick last summer to get help/win now. How would that look now? Would you honestly say you still regret that kind of move wasn't made?
Sabres are staring at a top 3 pick in the draft and nobody they would have received 8 months ago in a trade would have pulled them out of the gutter. It would have been a terrible deal for Adams and co.
Teams that trade their first round picks to win now are contender and maybe bubble teams that are up and coming and it will take them over the top to win in the playoffs.
I'd love to trade picks and am entirely not married to them, I swear. But mortgaging picks to simply GET to a 10th seed (and still miss) and at MOST the 8th seed isn't worth it to me.

Absolutely we should have traded it. You can't come in here and claim it wouldn't have gotten anything good because you don't know. You also have no idea of the ripple effect it could have on the team's performance if they see management actually bring in help for once.
I don't care if it's the first overall after the yesr we have had. The best move for the team at the time was to trade it last summer for either a good top 6 player or a top 4 rhd that can actually play defense.

Sure it could be a productive roster player. Add 10 points to our current standings and we move up 1 place in the Atlantic. There's no way one piece would make more of a positive effect than 10 points 52 games in. that's even a stretch alone.
...because your options will probably be limited to teams wanting Cozens for a Playoff push...how many teams looking to push for the Playoffs are going to trade a BETTER player??...how many rebuilding teams are looking to trade a BETTER player to get Cozens +??...the Market is the problem for Buffalo, imo...

yes there is. Dahlin being out for a major stretch of that awesome losing streak made a major difference. Take half those losses back then try to imagine quantifying the other points gained by the team in the locker room not realizing the season was gone and punting it away...

No, not necessarily such teams, he is not UFA, it is just a change of scenery and a hockey deal. Nashville was interested in them and their playoffs ended long ago, maybe there are still dark horses who are interested in them.

This isn't the NBA or NFL where you trade for Allen or Butler and it makes a Massive difference.
Adams would be getting crucified if the current lotto pick coming up was traded for a top 6 wing or D. We'd be drafting 8th overall AGAIN, at best. Instead we have the pick and it'll be top 3. What do you think that trade looks like anyways last summer? It doesn't pull MacKinnon. Maybe Ehlers type.

It helps of you do your homework on the draft class....outside of MAYBE the top 5 the rest is kinda meh. If ever there was a time to trade a top 1st rounder its basically this year. To dumb it down for you yes I'd trade this years pick and Helenius for EP40 if given the chance.
...agree in theory, but is a team like Nashville going to give up someone "BETTER" than Cozens when they want the same thing as Buffalo; to get relevent again??...imo, at best you're looking at a player who has relatively the same upside as Cozens in a change of scenery deal, unless Buffalo adds other pieces that it may hurt them in the future to move (a like Byram)...to nab a Petey or someone like that is going to cost heavy and it's not like a team like the Nucks want to retool, they also want to stay "relevant"...the Market this year is the #1 thing going against Buffalo...

The rest of the league would know how the draft class is as well. So a 1st rounder isn't going to be as highly valued to get your oh so precious top 9 winger that puts the entire team on their back and brings us to the playoffs.

I'm not against a one-on-one deal to change of scenery. I also think some teams might see Cozens as a potential top 6 C for them, which they lack, and everyone in the NHL knows the Sabres have screwed up their player development and a change of scenery for our players is more often than not successful.
...again, agree in theory, but that pretty much ends up with a Kirby Dach type...does that really move the needle much for Buffalo??...seems like spinning tires to me...imo, the most impactful move for Buffalo that moves the needle most for them in the immediate would be to package either Power or Byram with Cozens...you guys have 2 Top 4 LD (Dahlin & Byram) and one supposedly in the waiting (Power)...Buffalo needs to take a big swing with a BIG package, imo...use that area of strength and parlay it into a true Top line guy...now it just remains to be seen who that guy is...

If an impact player comes along it doesn't matter if you suck. The only exception is if you're just entering a rebuild.
You will never win with a core 26 and under, just look at the average age of cup winners 30+.
Maybe that one impact player alone doesn't put you over the top but you add pieces when you can until you have the pieces you drafted complimented by pieces you traded or signed.
