Not California
Would there be interest in a deal centered around local boy Quentin Musty? Similar type and frame. A do-over as it were.

Sweetener or two on the Sharks side?

I see him going to Calgary.

Buffalo: 1st 2025, 2nd 2026, Nazem Kadri (if he waives) and Sam Honzek (or another high end prospect)
Calgary: Dylan Cozens
Flames would offer Kadri and a small add at most, Andersson for Cozens and an add, or players like Backlund or Coleman + a medium sized add (top 6 young guys in Zary, Coronato, Basha, Honzek, Gridin, and Parekh off the table).

Why would Calgary give the better centre, a prospect that’s excelling, and a 1st and 2nd for taking all the risk on a guy who could put it all together? Calgary has the roster guys that Buffalo needs in the “play the right way” department with those 4 vets, and it really is what they should be chasing so I agree they’re good trade partners. HFBoards hates the ‘young for old’ trades, but I’d be chasing after a lot of the coaches favorite types with talent if I was Buffalo.

Long story short, Kadri for Cozens as a basis makes a lot of sense. Calgary would be adding a 2nd or Pelletier in the deal, not two 1sts and a 2nd.

Kadri + Weegar for Cozens+
Kadri and Weegar combined currently have more points than Cozens is pacing for. That + would have to be the most unbearable list of players for Buffalo to part with before Calgary stops laughing.

I personally believe Calgary would be a good option to get the most out of Cozens, but even reaching his reasonable potential I’d be hard pressed to say he reaches either of Kadri’s or Weegar’s impact.

Well, Kadri is not young anymore and of course that would be a solid plus. It makes no sense for us to sell Cozens cheap either.

Kadri isn’t young but his point totals were in the 70s last season, and he has 12 points in his last 14 games now that he no longer has a bottom 6 on ice shooting percentage in the NHL. Kadri now immediately makes Buffalo a vastly superior team, and he provides cup pedigree, and more importantly that chippy “do it the right way play style” that Buffalo needs in spades. Kadri going to a more offensive team than the Flames looks like he could still be an elite 2C and help Buffalo break the streak, while Calgary starts the reclamation on Cozens who I still think could be quite good.

Age is the only reason the + is on Calgary’s side and not a massive + on Buffalos side. Buffalo getting the vastly superior player today and the next couple seasons is why this trade happens, but as much as HFBoards hates the idea the + shouldn’t be huge.

Man, I know, that's why I suggested the trade. I have no idea what Calgary would be looking for in that + or what they need, but like I said, it would be a solid plus.

Losing a top end 2C and a low end 1D/top end 2D in a single trade would be a devastating return regardless of age to the point I don’t think it’d be reasonable to discuss. The list of adds would be a high end young D/top end D prospect and a great 1st/blue chip forward. Which sounds completely unreasonable, but I legitimately can’t think of a single trade in the league where a team lost its 1C and 23 minute 2D in a single trade, with both having term.

I wouldn’t blame Buffalo at all for saying no, but I could see if Calgary weirdly decided to sell both Weegar and Kadri separately getting roughly the same if not more.

Okay, it's hard to negotiate with you. Well, this deal is something like a mockup of the Miller + McDonagh deal in Tampa.

We're talking about a soon to be 24 year old with 13pts on the season that costs over 7 million dollars until the next decade?
That Dylan Cozens? The one that hasn't proven he can competently play C at a top 6 level? The guy who's one standout year he played on the 3rd ranked offense and was 5th in team scoring?

Judging from some of these valuations he must come with a gold plated Rolls-Royce.

Sam Reinhart peaked at 65 points in Buffalo, and that was the only time he had more than 50 points (albeit he was at 50 when covid shut the world down). Sure Cozens doesn't come close to Eichel but to say Cozens is nothing like what Reinhart was is just silly.

The problem with Buffalo is the losers mentality. The only player on that roster with a cup ring is Aube-Kubel. And the only other guys who have been to the finals are Tuch (went as a rookie) and McLeod (there last year). The Swords need someone who knows what it takes to win and is driven to do it again, or at the very least an energy guy. Maybe it's as simple as someone like Scott Laughton. Or if it's more of a free agent target, someone like Yanni Gourde would be a great target.

Don't you dare expose this guy, some people think he's the second coming of Linden.
