Feels necessary to insert into the record that he was one of our worst forwards in the ten games before THE FIGHT. He lucked into a couple of goals that buoyed some opinions of him, but his game was broken from the jump this season. I understand the urge to pin his struggles on the injury and it certainly didn't allow him to correct his course in a timely manner, but it wasn't the cause.

He had maybe six encouraging weeks when the rest of the team was showing life around February that give me hope that he can get back to what he does well moving forward.

That's a... fair enough summary of my six week old post, I suppose? Although I'm not sure if sophomore slumps are actually a regular thing or just a rhetorical reflex when they happen. Definitely not sure that 40% decreases in goal scoring are the norm.

Like I said, I saw enough posts lamenting THE FIGHT derailing his season that it felt appropriate to note that he was just as lost before THE FIGHT.

But after a decent finish to the year and his excellent WC, I remain hopeful "that he can get back to what he does well moving forward."

Socks with sandals?! I thought he was 23, not 53.
Gen Z are bringing back socks with sandals. And they've also brought back crew socks instead of no show socks. Cozens kinda split the difference here with ankle socks.

This Cozens hate is mind boggling.
He signed a massive contract and then did not perform. Looked like a 3rd liner at best for a large part of last season.

We need the Dylan Cozens that wears a Canadian jersey to show up next season.

I appreciate the stat comparisons but I don’t see many people comparing the two players - the franchise didn’t just put all the chips to bet on Mitts being a long term top 6 center like they did with Cozens.

You clearly show why they didn’t want Mitts as long term 3C though.

This is pretty interesting to me, as someone who just an hour or two ago said he would've preferred to keep Mitts. Either my eye test failed me last year, or my expectations for Cozens were just higher and it threw things out of whack. Probably both.

This is the way.

I think the negatives results/expectations of Cozens skewed his actual performance numbers.

This is how I feel.

He made $7.1M last year. Mittelstadt made $2.6M last year. I expect more from Cozens.

After he recovered from getting his bell rung early in season, he really seemed to pick it up to finish off the year. What I saw at the beginning was a kid that thought they were anointed 'a playoff team'. I think the contract pressure may have been there for him too. I don't think anyone would doubt he's a competitor, so I'm expecting he comes out of the gate flying this year.

Anyone else think Cozens falls way too often? He's a big, rangy guy, well over 200 lb now. Turning 24 in February, he's not a kid anymore. He should be strong on his skates, but too often he hits the deck upon the slightest contact.

Maybe it's just me finding yet more fault with a guy whose play has fallen far below expectations.
