Dustin Brown Retirement?

Regrets missing his chance to join Team Brown in Ottawa when they still had Logan along with Josh and Connor. Hoping there’s another chance.

A better thread title would be “Will Dustin Brown retire after this season?”

He should keep playing if he feels like he still has something to contribute. He’s seen it all, done it all, and doesn’t have any major looming milestones, so I hope for his sake he retires. He’s basically been a shell of his former self this year. Father time caught up with him at last. One of my favorite Kings ever though. Will always love Dustin.

O’ Captain, my Captain!

He has a small army of offspring and a wife. I expect he will consider retirement or he'll be back for a million bucks.

He will retire at the end of this year's playoffs, when he raises the Cup for the third time. He will lead the team in PP goals and destroy every star on the other teams. Bob Miller will also be brought in to call every game in the finals.

Dustin Brown is no longer an NHL caliber player, who has had a great career, and is a Kings legend.

23 is going to go to the rafters, and he will always be remembered as the captain who really rose to the occasion in 2012 by playing out of his f***ing mind.

That being said, there is no reason for him to continue playing, not one. Mileage on the body has taken its toll, and he isn’t a high IQ player that can get around it. No shame in hanging them up.

If he wants to pursue it, I think he'd be really, really good in front of the camera doing commentary or some such. If you've seen him do commercials, he's actually very comfortable and natural on camera - unlike Luc (who ALWAYS seems like he's reading).
I just wish he'd actually announce his retirement, so he can get a final round of applause for everything he's contributed.

This place will explode when he signs on for another year.😄

ps. change the damn title, it extremely click-baity.

Depends on how he's used.

If he's glued to Kopitar despite being a corpse again, absolutely, and it will be just as justified as it was earlier this year.

If he's willing to accept a lesser role--i.e. 12th/13th forward--and can still perform at an above-water level, I'd love it.

People may want to say it's just negativity or hate for Dustin Brown but there's not one person on this forum who doesn't revere the player he was, but some posters are simply the one's who can't give anyone else respect for diversity of opinion, in their eyes it's just a binary 'we suck burn it all down' / 'we're awesome and everyone is beyond reproach' with no grey area.

My friends dad is 62 and has certainly earned more money than Dustin Brown, will earn more money than him next year, and could earn a lot of money over the next 5-10 years even if he doesn't lift a finger.

Why isn't he retiring?

Because he:
a) enjoys his work
b) is good at his job
c) enjoys his lifestyle and
d) plans to maintain his lifestyle for a long time moving forward.

edited title for less confusion.

Ultimately its up to him. He will go out on his own terms so if he wants to play 1 more year then I don't think Blake and Luc will stand in his way. Whether that would be the right hockey decision is a different discussion.
