The Kings deserve a lot more offense from i guy being paid like a all star. Like i said before, this Deans fault too for giving him such a long contract. If they signed him to a 3 year deal, 5.8 mil wouldn't be such a big problem. Now they can't get his contract off the books.

I'm not blaming brown for those incidents but it's clear Brown didn't have a handle on the guys. Like I said, I highly, highly doubt that each of those incidents were a one-off. You don't randomly sneak in Molly's and cocaine to a Vegas pool, unprescribed pills across the border, or randomly decide to put your wife's head through the tv. These guys had issues and nobody questioned it.

The more I read and hear Brown talking, the more i realize that nobody in that locker room gives a flying fig what he has to say. He comes off petulant, whiny, and entitled.

You might be right. And it adds more to my thinking that the Kings won Stanley Cup's because they had Drew Doughty, Anze Kopitar, Jeff Carter and Jonathan Quick in their primes and not because they all sang Kumbaya after the games and were Boyscouts away from the rink.

And maybe this is another step in Dean's evolution in evaluating hockey players based on what they actually do on the ice, something he clearly did not do with Richards, Greene and Stoll. I don't know, but I still think it was an unneeded distraction.

It's not Brown's responsibility to police GROWN MEN in their off time. The leadership group(Kopitar/Doughty/Carter/Greene) has had nothing but good things to say about Brown his entire tenure as a King.

Seriously get real man.

I didn't say police the players but he should have been aware. He wasn't.

Like I said, there's a high probability that things were happening behind the scenes, players talk. I mean how many teams in the NHL go through scandal after scandal like the Kings did? The ship was totally rudderless because there wasn't any leadership. Guy like Mitchell (a true captain imo) had a huge impact in the locker room. Brown? Not so much, if any impact.

On June 30, now former Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown broke his silence after Anze Kopitar replaced his as the team's captain.

What became clear in a very (and unusually) candid media conference call was that Brown does not agree with the change but is moving forward, with his focus being on getting his game back.

But what also became clear is that the Kings bungled the whole situation. For my thoughts on that particular issue, check out...

Oh brother.

Is it really Brown's responsibility to interject himself in people's personal problems ?

That is a good way to get your teeth kicked in, or harmed even more.

Seriously think about what you're envisioning.

I think it's obvious that Dean got way too close to the players, and it's easy to see why. They gave Dean Lombardi his first cup. DL has been in the business for how many years and his goal was always to help an org win a cup. He finally did and he simply got too close to the players which impaired his judgement.

When you have to go visit Mike Richards house on a lake in Canada to get his word that he will perform better, you are too close to the team.

I think it's obvious that DL learned from that, and he is reshuffling the deck here in terms of building the team.

When it comes to teammates doing drugs and beating wives, yeah I do expect him to step up and say something.

Think of what the (bleep) your envisioning. Ignore the issues surrounding your freaking teammates? :help:

How do you know he didn't say something ?

It's speculation on both parts, we agree to disagree.

It's been my contention that he didn't know and did not have a handle on the locker room. You asked me if he should interject in that situation.

Guys like Mitchell and Willie did the heavy lifting in that room, not Brown. It's no surprise that once they went away, this team started having issues...be it on the ice or off it.

Those issues could have been going on for years. Especially the drug related ones(with Mitchell/Williams in the room).

Also no one could have seen or heard anything. Lombardi was shocked with Stoll/Richards/Slava.

So again it's all speculation. Neither you or me knows what goes on in the locker room.

Brown's game seems more motivated by negative factors rather than positive factors.

His 2012 stretch run and playoff run was epic, but remember it was fueled by his name in trade rumors.

After he got paid, he fell off. With Richards, it was after he got concussed again. But I don't remember any significant injury or physical factor blocking Brown. I have no problem after the 2012 run that Brown got paid but it seems like he's not playing as hard.

If Brown doesn't like it, he should play himself into a position where LA could finally move him.

To be fair he WAS having a VERY strong 2013 until the Pominville incident.

And don't forget he did have a knee injury.

He looks physically fine so I'm not making excuses, but I'm just suggesting there aren't "no" incidents, and I totally disagree that he's not playing as hard.

Could all be psychological, hence the move.

I don't want to get into the discussion one way or another if it's Brown's responsibility to do that--but to me, this is the organization helping brown and themselves by distancing themselves from said incidents on his watch.

If he takes the "C" as seriously as he said and as we think he does, there's no way this didn't all weigh on him.

Still don't see any entitlement in any of this, I think a whole lot of you guys are responding to the title rather than the content.

The Kings and their fans deserve better considering what he's being paid

Honestly how much is Brown really overpaid ?

He was coming off a stellar 2012 year, and cup run. He made 3.8 million I think.

What do you think he would have got as an UFA ?

I would wager 5-6 million a year.

So had the Kings not given him his contract, someone would of.

I think Kopitar is overpaid, But someone would have paid Kopitar.

Before this deal Brown was under paid.
At the time the deal was signed it was thought to be a good deal, not a great one.
And the Kings won a second cup after he signed. No was was complaining then.
No one could predict he would fall so fast.
Yes he sucks now, but I don't question his heart. He is not pulling a Roenick on us.

http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/dustin-brown-signs-eight-year-contract-extension-with-kings/

Brown is entering the final year of his contract in 2013-14 and will count $3.175 million against the cap this season. It's perhaps one of the best value contracts in the NHL.

An eight-year contract at this point in his career is a bit of a risk for the long-term, but he's still one of their best and most valuable players and should be for a few more years. Concerns over the length of the contract aside, the cap hit is still a really good deal for the Kings, especially given what he could have received on the open market next summer.

Only thing that needs to be said here...evidence suggests that a lot of fans have very short memories, or aren't aware of the facts.

When looking at Brown's current contract, you cannot do so without looking at his previous contract, what he did with that and what the impact of that deal was on the entire team.

Unless you do so, you cannot evaluate him and his current deal fairly or even accurately.

I could spell it out, but I believe people need to learn for themselves what's really going on here, but here's a hint...

Yes, Brown is not playing well enough to be worth his current deal..but only if you look at that in a vacuum.

Remember folks...virtually everthing is connected.

Does this work in any other field of business? So I guess I can go to my boss tomorrow and compare my work to my superiors/competition and get a contract that pays me x for the several years regardless my performance and people should applaud it?

How did this concept work for the Lakers with the difference we're discussing a top 10 player to ever play the sport? Also it was only for two years and they're left where now?

I don't think majority here have issues with the contract when he received it. I do not have issues with it even now and nor did I with Kobe's. The issue and concern is him throwing the organization under the bus and being a whiny entitled player. Had he come out and admitted what we all know and just stated he has to improve as he's been atrocious there'd be no complaints. At least Kobe came out and said he shouldn't be captain, isn't just bad yet arguably the worst player in the league, etc. (This being one of the most narcissistic athletes ever).

I'm sorry I can't stand stuff like this.

So you're saying we do not possess the ability to understand Brown's contract, and while you COULD walk us through the process, you're going to let us figure it out on our own? Wow, thanks! You gave us a hint too! Yay! I can't wait to conquer this complex puzzle and reach the same plane of player contract evaluation that you have reached! Someday, maybe you'll come down off the mountain and educate us morons.

You can evaluate contracts through any purple prism you want. His previous contract ended 3 full years ago. That contract is long gone and it doesn't matter now (unless you're desperately trying to find a bright side). Brown's play has become so bad that no team in the NHL wants his contract, including he one he currently plays for.

Do you think DL sits around goes, "Sure Brownie's contract is ruining my ability to fix this roster, but his last contract was great!" It doesn't work like that.

Listen though, this is all very advanced analysis. I could help you figure it out but I'm gonna go ahead and let you do your homework on this one!

Here's a hint: The only people who bring up Brown's OLD contract are his apologists because in the real world it has ZERO effect whatsoever on his current contract.

On a side note: I doubt Brown is playing like garbage on purpose. I'm sure he'd love to be a 20/30 guy but he can't for whatever reason. My issue is that he never owns up to it. If you're going to be all butt hurt on a conference call, at least bring up your own horrific performance too.

No offense Gann, but you're a fan, and your bias is dripping with the silly headline and your assertion that Brown was mistreated in this process.

His previous contract is irrelevant. His dip in production, his shooting percentage consistently dropping, his inability to complete passes, his constant turnovers, his sloppy skating, that is ALL on Brown. Don't be like that idiot Dennis Bernstein and make silly claims that other factors influenced Brown's decline.

It is Dustin Brown's performance, or lack thereof, that led to this change. We all admire what he did in 2012, but we also don't live in the past like some homers tend to do. Don't bury your head in the sand and ignore the downfalls this team has had since the 2014-15 season. Dustin Brown has let his team down with his play. He is paid like a premier power forward, yet he performs like another Dwight King.

You spout nonsense about the things he does off the ice, but guess what, player's aren't paid for their charity work and off ice endeavors. They're paid to perform. Something Dustin Brown hasn't done in many years.

I remember Brown being underpaid. Then I remember Brown declining and playing below his salary in 2011 where we almost missed the playoffs. I remember the trade rumors that sparked his declining play in late 2011. I also remember it was Mike Richards who set the tone for those 2012 playoffs.

I don't remember Brown being underpaid by 3mil a year though. Is my memory bad?

A lot of those appearances are in their contract too, they HAVE to appear at so many functions. I guess some King fans think they are apart of the team or pals with King players without realizing the players are forced into these situations and if they could they wouldn't be there.

We all see the same player on the ice. This is a player whose game was based on violence and he became civilized. Now he's trying to finesse, he remains on the outside of the ice refusing to attack the middle where the tough players go. The hits have gone down, from a career high of 300 in 2010-2011 to 234 last season. The ice time has gone down, the PP time down to about a minute a game on average. Shots on goal went from 218 to 177-his career high was 292 in 2008-2009. Basically, almost every aspect of his game was regressed greatly. The guy had one assist on the PP all season! He just doesn't want to play the style he needs to in order to be successful. That's it, bottom line.

Yeah but he signed a real nice bridge deal 8 or 9 years ago and that really helped the team. Go easy on him!
