I think that Norris has negative value and nobody will take him without the Senators retaining or taking back cap+term.

Gibson is overpaid based on his play over the last few years, but he has less term than Norris and a lower cap hit.

The Senators are very clearly going to need a #2 goalie who they can trust to play 40 games a year. Ullmark has rarely played more than that and is now facing injuries.

They also need a goalie right now, and nobody reasonable is available. With Tkachuk's NMC kicking in this season, it is very important that they make the playoffs. Gibson is overpaid, but dumping Norris subsidizes that overpayment. It's not the same as straight up taking a 6.4M 1B goalie when you're dumping an 8M questionable 2C, let alone an 8M 2C who has significantly more term than that goalie.

Gibson is also a more dynamic asset. If he goes to Ottawa and plays above average hockey, he only has 2 years left after this season. If they get cold feet about having such an expensive tandem, or if Ullmark is looking solid, there is a chance they could flip that contract to a different team. The Norris contract is going to be a lot more difficult to move.

They basically need a goalie and a D right now to save the season.
I don't hate the idea of Norris, but his contract is probably too big of a risk for the Ducks to take at this point. I would also be more interested if he were right-handed. His faceoff ability would be much appreciated here, though.

Really depends on what happens with EP/Miller. If either guy is moved, I would imagine a top 4 defender is involved in some way. If not and they keep both and are still in the playoff race around the deadline, maybe a guy like M.Pettersson or Provorov if CBJ moves him.
That’s true, wasn’t even thinking about Ep/miller potential trade.

I know Anaheim fans have flirted with the idea of EP but not sure if we’d be willing to go as deep on him as other teams would(plenty of cap to chase guys in offseason)

#5 on the depth chart on a good team is the exact right spot for him. He can give you steady top 4 minutes on any given night if needed, but you bring him in to lead your third pair or balance/solidify your bottom two pairs as "top four depth".

Big body, can log minutes, never gets running around trying to be anything more than a defender and has Cup winning experience - I think someone will give up a 2nd to rent that, especially with some retention. Worse Dmen have brought in first rounders but it shouldn't be expected
Adding onto this, but not only does Dumoulin have Cup-winning experience, he did so on the top pairing; in 2017 he carried Ron Hainsey to a Stanley Cup.

can he still skate. im sure hes better than what vancouver is icing right now. maybe a 5th rounder?
He’s played really well in Anaheim.

I imagine the starting price is at least a 3rd Seeing as we gave up a 4th to get him and likely retaining for a team. Wouldn’t be shocked if teams give up to a 2nd.

That was more of a general statement…. Just in this thread you have Av fans comfortably offering

2nd
For
Dumo + 4th

That seems like an ideal deal for Anahei

Anyone have a RW RFA/UFA forward that has potential to score but isn’t working out or can’t fit somewhere? I’d even add a pick depending who it was.
