Confirmed with Link: Ducks fire Greg Cronin

I figured Cronin would have a longer leash but there have just been too many issues to overlook and it's much better to fire the coach now so you have more options for who to interview and the new coach can step in and run the training camp. Verbeek is proving to be a decisive GM with high expectations and I like that a lot about him.

it's pretty telling that cronin still got the axe despite the 20 pt improvement in the standings (which would've given verbeek and the FO a convenient excuse to retain him)

Please hire Carle. It better not he Torts. I'm taking a year off of hockey if it's Torts.

Maybe the review of Cronin was like that scene in Office Space when they interview that useless employee(guy who screams about having people skills) and determin he doesn't do anything that helps the company and fire him
Oh man, I originally read your first sentence as "Please hire Carlyle." Talk about PTSD.

Hit the road, Jack!

Makes me wonder just what was said during exit interviews yesterday. Must have been some pretty hefty criticism levied by players to have Cronin fired the next day.

I have a hunch that was indeed a decent part of it. I suspect Cronin was pretty intent on firing, but wanted player input before pulling the trigger.

Lol Carlyle reminds me of the dad in the movie Stewart Saves his Family.

With Carlyle Z and Cutter would be filing trade requests.
Trouba and Gudas moved to top pairing with Gudas playing his offside. Dirk would be happy though so that is something.

The 20 pt improvement was kinda smoke and mirrors in my mind. We were so injured last year, we weren’t as bad as the 59 pt team. (Pt wise, advanced stats wise yeah not great). Zegras played 31 games, Leo plan, Killorn first 2-3 weeks of the season, McT, Johnston playing 60+ games, selling of Rico / Carrick at the deadline.

David Carle is no proven successful NHL coach. And while I find him interesting it is a huge Blackbox how he would deal with vets.

And to all dreamers, how many proven and successful are available that the Ducks can afford?

There is definitely question mark how he would deal with Vets but I’d assume he has a good idea and could lean on his brother who played 750 games in the NHL on how to handle vets.

What a way to start the way. Wake up, do some toilet Reddit browsing, see the daily thread with a "He's been fired!" added. On top of that, playoff games today!

I'm glad Verbeek made the right move but he flubbed the first coach hire. Hope he's learned something from it.
I am glad Cronin is gone if the goal is actually playoffs next year, but I wouldn’t necessarily call the hire a club. He was a stop gap coach who had a 2-3 year shelf life on a young team, whose job was individual improvement from young players, and change the culture.

I think he did his job, now that winning is the priority, he should be and is gone.

News big enough for a Pennaduck appearance! I wonder if Sojourn will crawl out from under his log...
