Confirmed with Link: Ducks fire Greg Cronin

Ducks need to see who gets canned before they commit to the next coach. Maybe a stacked team gets creamed in the 1st round and they fire their coach. We’ll see
I would almost guarantee they already know who they are hiring. They will want to announce that as soon as possible so agents can talk to their players during contract negotiations for RFAs and for potential summer free agents signings.

As a human, I appreciate Cronin tried to help these players grow, and I hope he finds another position somewhere.

That being said, this was clearly the right move. It is relieving to see Verbeek make the obvious but correct decision. I agree with a few others that they'll have a coach before July 1st. Hopefully, they pick someone with more experience. Overall though, solid start to the off-season.

Best of luck to Greg with his future endeavors.

I think this gives the Ducks a chance to bring in a proven and successful NHL coach, which will add a ton of legitimacy to the organization before the off season. Give top free agents more reason to want to come here, show that we are looking to take a big step forward next year.

Maybe, just maybe, Verbeek actually has high expectations for this org and wants to compete?

Beginning to think it is possible we’re a dark horse to land a star in free agency
PV should feel more pressure with his next hire that he may feel the need to accompany it with improving the roster outside of the organization. I think it may be an interesting off season for the Ducks and I'm expecting trades. Don't think we'll see another first time NHL coach behind the bench next season.

Last time Eakins was let go of like 48 hours after the season ended and then verbeek went on a2 month interview spree - you think that this time it would be a more expedited process?

Kind of wonder if any UFA feelers put out were also tinged with "I don't want to play for that guy" vibes. Could be more attractive to established players, but I suppose that depends on the next hire as well.

I kind of think back to trouba almost scoffing at the idea that they had turned the corner into this impressive team as another factor
Yeah I didn't love his performance this year but I respect the hell out of him for saying that very publicly. I've seen too many, I'd have to assume more casual fans, talking about how great it is that we saw improvement in the standings as though virtually everything else aside from a few individual improvements in the kids was anything short of a tire fire. All the metrics bear out that this team either didn't improve in many respects or got worse in others.

Cronin didn't learn jack f***ing shit from leaving the team to coach themselves for 20 games last season. I'm glad that stupid ass experiment of his backfired. That should have been a fireable offense for a development coach on its own but I'm guessing Verbeek ok'd it.

As much as they could have been nothing, think there was just maybe too many podcasts, reports and polls with negative energy about him.

Definitely doesn’t make it seem very welcoming

what a way to start the weekend

maybe, just maybe even verbeek finally realized that cronin was way out of his depth and was simply not competent enough to coach at the nhl level. its pretty obvious that any strides this team and the kids took was in spite of him

clune and thompson should be next if verbeek's plan is to contend next season
