This deal only makes sense if we're going to bring in more high-priced players. Perhaps a big contract for Trouba?

How does the $900k per year for 10 years, starting in '35, affect the cap? Explain it to me like I'm @Arthuros.

Offering someone like Rantanen 8M isn't going to be enough. You still have to make a competitive offer.

Deferred salary will only work as a small incentive and levels the playing field with low tax states. Time still equals money and you lose time when you defer salary. And it only works if the player plans to move.

Just like no one was offering Vatrano that extra 9M today, the Ducks doing it this way also didn't, as essentially deferred money is not equal to money.

Interesting take

I don’t think it says anything of the sort. What it says is that they didn’t want to pay $5m a year now to offset the 12% tax and he agreed to take some of that money later to stay here at market value.

My understanding of how this works is the money is still paid out and set aside in an escrow account.

I was pretty clearly kidding. I wouldn’t be surprised if we throw some crazy contract at him, though.

Like what is this man even trying to say here? Just an unnecessary opinion that Vatrano is a 3rd liner i guess?
He’s definitely not saying congrats to vatrano, or that this means we aren’t sellers anymore and that is a positive. Hes definitely not giving props to verbeek for the structure of the deal. Hes definitely not saying that he was wrong about it being certain that vatrano should/would be traded.
