Wow thats a great deal. He gets his $18m with less of a tax hit and we get only a $4.57m cap hit for 3 years
He has to be open to it, since $9 million 10 years from now is worth less than $9 million now (which is accounted for in the cap hit, which reflects the contract’s present day value). But that shows he wants to be here.

Good contract honestly. Clever to use contract negotiations that have happened in MLB to circumvent issues, ends up being good for both the team and player. Vatrano plays a very flexible style of hockey, and should continue to be a positive presence!

Love this honestly. I was concerned about giving him a big long term deal but also didn't want to trade him for next to nothing as a rental. 3 years at that cap hit is basically a no brainer. The deffered money is an interesting twist but kept the term and cap hit where we needed them - so I'm in favor.

Overall I'm quite happy for Frank, and with how this situation was resolved.

How did they arrive at a cap hit of $4.57M?
