It's funny though because they were good with Chibrikov. Can't put Ehlers on Lowry's line though because as Arniel would say it, he doesn't think or attack the same way.

This is the last year of trying to build a line around Ehlers. Because Yager won't fit his game either as a pass first guy. Who is probably not built for the corners on the NHL

Nino might be the only solution here. But then you start messing with what is working, which is Lowry, Nino and the grind.

Maybe it's Al and Fetts in the middle

I'm curious though. I have seen some nice stats for the 2nd line for goal diff, but I wonder what the actual numbers are for the winger pair with all centers. It's - with Scheif, - with Lowry now. What's that saying?
Ehlers crushes it with Scheifele, I think that part is pretty well publicized. Whether it's Connor or Vilardi on the other wing.

Not sure Ehlers has played much beside Lowry at all outside of the usual mix and match

Perfetti Namestnikov and Iafallo actually did do really well together last year though. 8 GF, 3 GA. 60% xGF, 58% Shot attempts across 23 games. You may be on to something. All 3 numbers as a line better than with Iafallo than with Ehlers.

With Iafallo this feels like a bottom six/checking we could actually play against the McDavid, MacKinnon type lines and maybe have a hope they don't get eaten alive?

Leaves Ehlers with some combo of Barron, Chibrikov and/or another 2C rental at the deadline...

I don't know how you blow up the Lowry line. That's your #1 matchup line. So it has to be 3 good defensive players. Now I think if Apples were healthy you could maybe get a lot of good things out of Iafallo on a checking line. He's a guy that will battle every shift. Probably same speed as Nino. And Nino could be the moving part.

I don't like the idea of Ehlers playing against other team's best if he plays soft. Which he did last night. Look at where he was covering Trouba on the GTG, standing beside him, no effort to move him out of the way of the goalie's sight. Or block a puck. Perfetti on the 4th line is just a result of that, because there were two games in December the Jets won as a result of Perfetti playing smart below the goal line hockey, battling, and changing lines with possession that created GWGs.

He's the fall guy for Ehlers. But I agree there's not a lot of chemistry there. There is still time to experiment.
Agree with this post 100%.

I mean, all he had to do was pay up for Monahan who is having a great season. Sometimes, when a team is in it’s prime and the window is open, you have to suck it up and give the team what it needs. Now we are going to trade some of our young pieces and picks, only to be lucky to get back what we already had.
The team definitely did everything it could to bring back Monahan. Hard to fault them there. But he is having a great first half in CBJ so far. If we have to burn another first on a rental... that will sting. We could have given up four 1sts by that point... Stastny, Hayes, Monahan and possibly one more now. Gulp.

Wonder if you have to blow up the top line. They are the hottest line in the NHL, but, is the only way to make us a 4 line team by putting them on different lines and switching Ehlers and Connor? I think Connor would play better with Perfetti with his north to South game.
Ehlers has had success with the first line. And having two lines that can produce would give us more than one line that can score.
I've been told ad nauseum on here that the only way to win in the NHL is to have a top line that dominates it's matchups

Ironically, when the Jets were kicking ass at the start of the season, CSV was a saw off with their opposition for GF% but ENP and NLA were crushing it

Recently it seems like CSV is the only line scoring much at 5v5, but I'd have to go back and look for sure

Why is he a problem and Vladdy isn't? Cole is on pace to get 48 points. That's fine production from a middle 6 forward.

What were people expecting, PPG player? Does anyone do that playing with Ehlers and Vladdy? I don't even mind bumping him down to 4th line and letting him play with Kupari and Barron but if you think Chibrikov is going to come in and keep up Perfetti's pace playing with Ehler and Vladdy for 40 games you need to watch more hockey.
Perfetti's expectations?? You should be introduced to surixon,

Perfetti and Namestnikov both looked horrible tonight in person. Not sure how they looked on TV.

If Helle plays even average we win.
Ah 27 looked even worse. The number of times the play dies on his stick is so frustrating. The cross ice pass that lead to the tying goal - uggg.

Lot of the things we hear ad nauseum turn out to be garbage. We have heard that Stanley is complete garbage and that he should trip in the locker room and hurt himself, because, the team would be better with Heinola. Which is one of my favorites.
We have heard that Ehlers is the best 5vs 5 player and that he can drive any line.
We have heard that Connor is one dimensional.
We heard that Schief and Connor shouldn't play together as they will give up more than they create.
We have heard Heinola will come in and be a difference maker.

One loss and the Kumbaya of the last PGT is shot to hell, yes this team has some warts but the Jets are still in first overall folks.
You would think we are battling for the last wild card spot and we just got pumped 10-0 . The Ducks are playing well right now and have beaten some good teams lately. Having said that if Helly plays like Helly we win in regulation. Ehlers has a bit of a brain fart and they tied the game late or even with Helly not playing great we still would have won .

Yeah i was ok with not paying up for Monahan, given the second line was at the same standard as last year + growth from Perfetti, however that's not been the case. And Monahan has performed V well in CBJ so far in year 1.

The rest of the top 6 center UFA market this off season has not been good though for the most part, so ok on missing out on Stamkos or Stephenson for instance.

Csv is finally working with kfc's total 200' buy in... i wouldnt mess with that - and i was anti csv last year

I legit think you solve all your problems by bumping nino to the ehlers line... barron or iafallo can fill his spot and still be a top shutdown line

Nino-names-ehlers has worked before and nino is the net presence ehlers needs

Barron-kupari-perfetti could be a solid line

Multiple things can be true. In the case of Connor for instance, he was not playing at this level in previous years and this season its like a new player in terms of engagemement. It's seriously a different player which is inherently bled into CSVs production.
Similarly, CSV wasn't at this this level last season, or early this year.
Ehlers still rates high in 5v5 production, but the line as whole has been underwhelming. I'd still say he's driving that line but they need someone else to help on offense. Names is showing his limitations offensively and Perfetti has disappointed again.

I have a feeling they'd put perfetti in the PB rather than 4th line.

I just don't know why people hold Stanley to some incredible standard.

Samberg misses pucks, too.

That Pionk Stanley pairing was good all game - there were no issues there.

The real problem is our 2nd line generates nothing most games, let's fix that.
It's not an "incredible" standard, it's just noting that in the NHL it's consistency that matters, and Stanley still makes more mistakes than I would like a regular D to make, including taking penalties. If his deficits were offset by a really definable asset, that would be fine, but I don't see the benefit to offset the costs.

But he hasn’t taken any the last 3. Did he play a perfect game? Nope, but, all players make mistakes like Ehlers blooper yesterday.
His play led to both of our goals against avs. He created offense again last night. Ppl just didn’t finish. Including miller who missed a wide open net.
Last game against Anaheim it was fleury who coughed it up. And Heinola is worse than both so as a bottom pairing d I think he is doing great.
Someone has to always be the cause of our losses like kc has been the last few years, because he had no 2 way game.
Either way I don’t need to defend him as coach will keep playing him.

I see when Stan gets beat he keeps them to outside and they get a weak scoring attempt as a result.

Yup there's a stark difference imo bw CSV, notably Connor, from this year vs last. And even beginning of the year CSV didn't start out to hot. T
The four nations snub also had scheifele playing out of his mind too for a while.

Disappointed ? He has basically the same or more points than Beniers, Laf, Byfield, Slaf, Mercer, Lundell, Johnston, Neighbours, Quinn, Peterka, Stankiven and many more while playing great d and improving his physicality and board work.

There is more to the game than just points s well. He just needs to become more consistent which young guys often struggle with.

Last 10 GF-GA at 5v5:

Scheifele 10-8 +2 (169 TOI, 45% CF, 53% xGF, 53% HDCF)
Names 4-4 +0 (125 TOI, 44% CF, 48% xGF, 41% HDCF)
Lowry 5-3 +2 (122 TOI, 49% CF, 57% xGF, 61% HDCF)
Kupari 0-0 +0 (42 TOI, 38% CF, 36% xGF, 20% HDCF)
Gus 1-0 +1 (24 TOI, 36% CF, 66% xGF, 67% HDCF)

Kupari and Gus didn't play all the games, so I think one or the other was 4C. Small samples for those guys, so whatever.

So Scheifele's getting 35% of the minutes, scoring 50% of the goals, and is out there for 53% of the goals against (still +2 though). But dominating dangerous chances (not as much as Lowry's line is dominating chances though).

2nd line has been pretty bad. Treading water in GF and generally losing their matchups by a sizeable margin. Getting out-dangerous-chanced 3-2 isn't a great look.

I thought Schief's line was doing better WRT GF%, but that looks about the same as the rest of the season

If you’re wondering why coaches don’t play Ehlers more, just look at that turnover with an attempted cross ice pass at the offensive blueline with a bit over two minutes left.
Yeah, that turnover was half-baked for sure, which is not the pastry Danes are famous for. He should stick with Blintzes or Nanaimo Bars or something, just not turnovers..

I was just looking at Scheifele's 5v5 minutes over the last 10 games as a shorthand for Top Line (and same for Names as L2, Lowry as L3 and Kupari/Gus as L4).

CSV is 7-7 in 133 minutes.
?SV is 1-0 in 11 minutes.
CS? is 0-1 in 11 minutes.
?S? is 2-0 in 14 minutes.
Jets are 11-6 without all three in 311 minutes.

ENP is 2-1 in 59 minutes.
?NP is 2-2 in 45 minutes.
EN? is 0-0 in 3 minutes.
?N? is 0-1 in 18 minutes.
Jets are 15-10 without all three in 331 minutes.

NLA is 1-2 in 65 minutes
?LA is 1-0 in 8 minutes.
NL? is 2-1 in 32 minutes.
?L? is 1-0 in 17 minutes.
Jets are 14-10 without all three in 336 minutes.

I haven't time to read the PGT or watch the highlight packages but I understand that we gave up a 2 goal lead to the Ducks and lost in overtime. And penalties not called were a major factor. But we came out of it with a point. And we're still running at the top of the pack. And tomorrow night is another game.

Tomorrow night might be when I make it home, looking at the Simcoe forecasts today, Heavy snow and 400 closed sounds like I'm in for a long day without the ride to Barrie I was promised. There's worse places to be snowed in than Pearson I suppose. Maybe Siberia?
