Post-Game Talk: Duck Hunt - Leafs Win in Anaheim

They probably seal it if they win 1/2 against Florida and the game against Tampa. We will see what happens. I'm rooting for the division but Ottawa as the prize doesn't seem so nice.
There are no easy outs in the playoffs. That said, Ottawa works for me, they have no playoff experience, we will be the home team in their building, and we will finally get up to play them like they do us. We play our game, like our chances and love that the two Florida teams will literally beat the shit out of each other.

Ottawa is a .500 team on the road.

Every time we played them they were playing for their playoff lives while we had nothing to play for. Also playoff Ullmark is what cost the greatest regular season team of all time to choke in the playoffs.

Laughton was moved to 7th in the PK forward pecking order... that is probably fair given that he's not been very good and if we are going to try and be more aggressive, he is not a great skater.

He did play 13:33 tonight and this road trip has been good for him.

Benoit was far and away our busiest man on the PK tonight. Ice time leader.

And they get up for us like it's the playoffs every game, whereas it's just another game for us. I see how ramped up they are, great, but come playoffs we will be spirited against them as well, so this worry about the regular season, meh. They're not exactly a juggernaut, battle tested team, it's a great matchup for us imo. Bring it on.

Can't be stated enough the fact that we'll be at home even during away games. Love the take.

Let the other two beat the trap put of each other and walk into the conference finals.

LETS GOOOOOOOO!!!

I've decided to stop being nihilistic regarding this team, they broke my heart so many times the last few years but F it. They are my team. Might as well cheer and hope for the best.

Just take the points and run. I thought we were just ok. Carlo with a great game. McCabe and Rielly with poor games. Woll was solid but shaky at times. Nylander was at his disinterested best.

Playoff advantages on paper for the Leafs never seem to pan out. Until proven otherwise, I think of all the Atlantic matchups Toronto is the most vulnerable. There’s pedigree on the side of the Florida clubs and Ottawa has a darkhorse advantage. Toronto has experience but it has unexorcised demons and a lot of baked in bad habits that are readily apparent.

Sure, but we have to face someone and I'll take the Sens all day and let the other two teams battle. Easy call, what you're pointing out is really irrelevant to preferences. The demons are there irregardless, but I still see an easier potential matchup and pathway. Sens are just a team, they aren't legit conference contenders, yet anyways. Nice story, decent team.

Rielly taking that penalty on the 3 on 1 was not that bad either. It could have been an auto goal had he stayed on his feet. But the PK was no good and didn’t bail him out afterwards.
Yeah I thought Rielly had a good game. He was pressing for offense in a way that none of our other defenders can. If conversion follows everything starts to come together from the back end right in time. Fingers crossed.

That was a BIG win especially since Montreal did us such a HUGE favor.

Woll was solid tonight hopefully that's the game gets him going on a run here because if Woll and Stolarz get going like they were earlier in the year this team can go far.

I'm glad this was mostly a depth win, because as much as the top 6 needs to produce, you are going to need a goal from Domi, Laughton, Lorentz etc.

It can't be ALL on Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares Knies and McMann.

You need depth goals and tonight they got 2.

20 days to discuss Sens / Leafs Game 1 where's the pre game thread!

Still 2 games against Florida and a game against Tampa left on the second half of a B2B after Florida the day before.

If the Leafs win all 3 - then that puts us in the drivers seat. Losing any to Florida gives both Florida/Tampa the chance to jump us

agree. Just hard to have faith in our boys due to their records in the past 8 playoffs.

Go through the schedule, and how each team has played over the past few weeks, and make an argument as to how Florida is going to pass Toronto. Let me guess, Florida will win both games against the Leafs? And then the Leafs will lose to Buffalo, Montreal, Detroit, etc.?

Have you forgotten how bleak the Leafs future is? It’s among the bleakiest in the entire league. At this point, the best we could hope for is that they somehow manage to hang onto a playoff spot.
