I'm getting ready to pepper the Sens trade thread with different variations of Batherson for Karlsson (half retained) proposals all off season. Just gotta wait and see if Ceci re-signs with Dallas first.

I could see something in that vein being what the Sens would be after.

Ideally Bath+ for a top line RW to play with Stutzle.

Laf is still intriguing, and would fit age wise with the Sens group. Might be a bit of a challenge for the Sens to make it work cap wise since Bath has a really nice 5m/year deal for what he brings.

This would be great for Ottawa from a marketing perspective, but they would have a difficult time making the cap work, unless Giroux isn't coming back.

Ultimately, I think that they move Batherson for draft picks, re-sign Giroux, move Zetterlund up the lineup, and try to sign a cheaper top 9 forward to help the depth. It ends up being cap/depth neutral, and they add some draft picks to replace the 1st rounder they will lose to the league.

I don't think that is realistic. I'm not sure Giroux is going to sign for that, and I don't think the team wants to move out veterans like Perron.

They could decide that Zetterlund was not a fit and trade him, but that would surprise me. He was slow to start in San Jose as well, and there wasn't really a spot for him in the top 6. He played a different role here.

It is not completely reactionary, Batherson's name has been in/out of trade talk all year.

The team has very little cap flexibility assuming they keep Giroux and Zetterlund, and sign their RFAs. Some people are going to argue that the Senators can't afford to give up Batherson's skill, but on paper he is the most expendable player who is moveable, has value, and might return some decent assets. I don't think Batherson fits the identity of the team that Staios is building so it wouldn't shock me to see him moved out.
