Value of: Drake Batherson

hes getting hate on the sens board but this isnt a move ottawa should make and even if they do it shouldnt be an inseason move

sens are trying to get into the playoffs so they want to move their 2nd highest point getter? Hes on pace for 64 points. His play is inconsistent at times (thus the hate) but 64 points show he is a solid top 6 forward (probably a #4 forward on a really good team). Factor that plus the fact that sens have him for under 5 million for 2 more years after this one.

It really doesnt make sense unless some team offers something stupid that helps ottawa out now which i dont see happening

Sens need more Bathersons, not less.

Good production, even better considering his contract situation.

I think it is likelier that he is used in a package to get a significant upgrade than it would be a hockey trade. Sens probably have no interest in a futures package.

He's been in a massive cold streak almost since the new year, but still has 47 points in 60 games, good for second on the Sens.

The Sens biggest need right now is more scoring help, and RW is the position the organization has the least amount of depth at, so the only way I see Batherson being traded is in a change-of-scenery swap for another winger.

I think he is "available" insofar as:
a) He is not one of our top 3 players (Brady, Stutzle, Sanderson);
b) We do not have many pieces of value;
c) He could potentially return an impact player or be parlayed into two solid players

This is a bad example for many reasons, but let's say Tom Wilson was on a 2yr $5mil deal (edit: or Alex Tuch, for example). That is the type of player we would happily trade Batherson for. Or a good two-way center. Or perhaps a limited goal scoring winger and an inexpensive young D. I don't really see that being likely, though, especially in-season.

I don't think Batherson will get traded but, if he is, it would be in a hockey trade.

Team 1200 was talking about how since his hat trick (it was a while ago, I forget when) he had 16 points in around double the amount of games.

He's struggled since the 4 nations break even more.

One of the knocks against him is he isn't good in his own zone.

He's got 2 years after this at a nice cap hit. Good size at 6'3 and has tremendous skill offensively, so if he is available teams will definitely be calling

It's hard to construct a deal that would help Ottawa. Their scoring has dried up under Travis Green and they have a real shortage of guys who are producing at top six levels. I thought Batherson had improved on his defense but I suppose not enough.

Here's one suggestion that sort of works for my Kraken:

Drake Batherson for Jared McCann.

Same contract term and length. McCann is the more complete player, while Batherson I think has a little more high end offensive potential and is two years younger. McCann was better under the tight checking coach in Hakstol, while Batherson is now maybe losing some confidence under Green. It also works in the sense that Ottawa is losing patience while Seattle still has some retooling to do, so Seattle can take a chance on the more inconsistent player.
