Player Discussion Drake Batherson (RW) - Part II

Batherson at times has been great this yr & other times not so much like every other player on this team at one time or another. He was 2nd to Stutzle in scoring this yr, people on here are always whining for more skill & now they want to get rid of one of the best playmakers on the team with Giroux & Perron on their way out soon, makes no sense.

If say Bath and his line are by far our best three forwards. Don't see why he'd get any hate. Also his linw seems to be the only that doesn't make major mental gaffs.

And they all check hard.

You need to edit this bad boy.

Drake is so due, it isn't funny. He can't buy one, even when the puck is sitting on the goal line.

Let's hope he breaks out Thursday and carries it over to Saturday. Scoring has been spread out, but he can easily have multi-point games incoming.

Look for Drake to have a big night tonight:

He is due for a game where he gets a bounce.

I'm sure he is playing a bit timid after a few plays this series. Anyone would have to be second guessing.

That said, I want to see him drive the net more and be that physical presence we know he can be, while getting more pucks on net.

I'd move Batherson in a package for a winger upgrade, but I'd prefer to keep him and his bargain contract while getting another top 6 gamble like Kuzmenko or Mangiapane.

Batherson had a meh playoffs, but it's his first one. He can only really get better and some of these guys have to grow into getting better. Look how long it's taken guys with loads of talent (look a the guys on TML), to be productive in the spring

I still think he has a 80pt year where everything just aligns for him but the consistent ghost stretches have opened me up to the thought of moving him if someone wants to pay the price.

I would do Batherson for Peterka one for one if that offer was on the table. Reuinte Norris with Bath, and sens get a similar type winger with a good relationship with Stützle. Don't know if Buffalo will do it, i know Peterka is younger and more cost controlled.

Is he a playoff player though? We need to keep building on the idea of building a playoff team. If we are removing Bath, it has to be for a guy that they think can bring it when the checking ramps up.

I'd trade him after his awful play in the postseason but I don't know if we can afford to.

Team already has trouble scoring as it is, and he doesn't make all that much, which is valuable for a team that's going to be pushing up against the cap.

If we can swing a swap for a different top 6 scorer in his mid-20s, go for it, but I don't see it happening.

Depends, if we somehow land a big free agent and we’re over the cap, we can probably move him. Just don’t move him before we get someone.

At 5m per I still think he’s worth keeping. He has two more playoff runs in him before his contract expires (assuming we make it), so I’d just keep him around until then and if he can’t elevate, don’t extend him.

I get the logic of trying to get something for him, and as always you can trade just about anyone as long as the return makes sense, but it might be best not to extrapolate too much from his first six playoff games. There’s a long list of players who were playoff failures until they weren’t.

I get that Cozens and Batherson are friends but they both suffer from the "intriguing skillset no brain" condition which surfaced a few times in the series.

Putting them on the same line sort of isolates it from the other lines, but it also compounds the issue.

I wonder if we'll see a different combination next year.

Cozens should be a winger

Its not about them being friends
Batherson is a hot and cold player wrt putting up points .. He can look elite and he can look pedestrian . With him I am not sure its a coaching thing. Could be a psychology thing. He improved his 2 way play a lot under Green and he seems very coachable.

Cozens I do think can make improvements with coaching and he will need and benefit from some tough love. I am sure the Sens will give him things to focus on in the off season and I am hopeful that starting the season here will make a difference to seeing improvements in his intensity and consistency and dzone coverage. He'll get time in the film room.
