Player Discussion Drake Batherson (RW) - Part II

Batherson has played well. He had a rough shift in OT and he owned it. He needs to move on from it and so should we.
Has he been that great? Looked pretty rough on the first goal too. Lost his guy in the defensive zone for a back door tap in. Had 4 PIMS in the first game as well. I’ve definitely seen some positive but it feels outweighed by the negative so far.

I will need to find the post game video. I was curious what he may say about the finish to that game. I figured he had to recognize how he contributed to the loss.

The biggest problem is there is so little room for error at the best of times and now we are in the position of having no wiggle room. We need wins, full stop.

He was one of the better forwards in the first game. Scored a hard-nosed goal in front of the net and had 6 hits.

The penalty he took on OEL was legit and dumb, but the one on Jarnkrok was laughable. Not even close to a penalty. Just outmuscled a smaller player.

His game 2 was absolutely horrific though. Haven't seen a game that bad from a forward in awhile.

The only part about the OEL penalty that bugged me is he crosschecked him in the upper back, and OEL grabbed the back of his head, seemed a bit embellishy to me, but it's a penalty either way.

Batherson has evolved so much in the last year and a half. He’s playing physical and is learning how to be a 200 foot player. Considering he’s going to have to testify against some of his friends soon it’s rather impressive.

If the series ended last night, especially due to the 4-min OT PP, I have a feeling it could have been Batherson's last moments as a Sen. With his trade value and contract status, our commitment to Stutzle, Sanderson, Tkachuk and Ullmark, having just brought in Cozens, and the rarity of top 4 RHD, he feels like the "something" in "something's gotta give". Chabot or one of the RD are the next most intuitive options, but those trades all seem more complicated.

I am glad he gets a chance to show up again. Fight back hard, and even if we don't win, show management that this team can win, is on the verge of it. He's had an up and down series - as with all the guys I've named - but Drake is such an important player for us and we can't win with him making the type of mistake that he has.

Batherson now only has to be good for 3 games. The longer the series goes the more chance Batherson has to take over a game or a series. He’s so close and he’s done so much harm to the team - it has to balance out and he has to come up big in games 5, 6, 7

I expect him to be excellent and come up key for us on Toronto ice

He needs to use his body and not his stick. All of his problems from this series could have been avoided if he just used his body.

Very true. Has the bad habit of gliding and not moving his feet. Has always had trouble stopping on pucks and using his feet to get into better position. Relies on shielding pucks while gliding, and using his stick.

Unacceptable to be taking the offensive zone penalties he has been this series. Hopefully the fact that the stakes are so high helps drive the message home that he needs to move his feet and stop using his stick.

When Bath uses his body he can be a force. When he's not he can be a liability.

Donkers told the jury that investigating police officers obtained five videos from the cell phone of current Ottawa Senators forward Drake Batherson, and two videos from Michael McLeod that were filmed in his hotel room.McLeod also provided police with a continuous Snapchat video in three segments, Donkers said.

Crown's version and what they want the jury to focus on. There would have been no surprises wrt videos that would be in evidence

The videos were from the bar, not the hotel room FYI.

The Crown and defence have agreed on several facts, including:

  • Room 209 at the Delta Armouries hotel in London was registered to McLeod and Formenton.
  • The date in question is June 19, 2018.
  • Surveillance video from Jack's bar and the Delta hotel are authentic and admitted.
  • Five videos from Drake Batherson's phone taken inside Jack's bar are authentic and admitted.
  • McLeod gave police two videos from his phone in 2019. The first was taken at 3:35 a.m. and the second at 4:26 a.m.
  • In 2022, police got five Snapchat videos taken at Jack's bar that night from McLeod's phone.
