Player Discussion Drake Batherson (RW) - Part II

Cozens got skipped by. Like there was an angle there for Domi. Bathersons play is inexcusable. He gets out of Domis way??? I don’t even know what the explanation is there? What’s he trying to do it. It legit looks like he thinks he’s about to take contact and he flinches away.

He's soft. Our players are playing soft. They have big hits lined up and curl away all the time. This one is no different. He's not the only player who does this, though he is probably the worst culprit right now.

It’s not so much about a hit. It’s simply willing to do anything defensively. Like. What’s he thinking there? Where does he think domi is going?

It’s also not about playing soft. Balls to the wall physicality is not our style. So I don’t expect it to be now.
The playoffs are all about seeing which players can "up" their game. Most players can't maintain a high level of intensity in the regular season that's why there are highs and lows. But in the playoffs the guys that can ramp it up and stay there will win. A number of Sens , including Batherson, don't look like they can do that.

How many goals have been scored from the slot in this series? It wasn't all Ullmark's fault, but at the same time they needed a save there, they needed him to come up big at that moment & keep them in the game. Two goals on 4 shots put us in a hole right off the bat again, it's deflating. Bottom line, we need better goaltending, hopefully it improves at home, but he was brought in to solve our goaltending problems & it's not working when we are constantly chasing the game.
Yeah I mean its just a carbon copy of all the old leafs sens series. Goaltending is amazing on one team and awful for the other. It's not complicated. At the end of the day in any playoff series if one teams goaltending is way better than the other they always win.

God damn nightmare. Lol

But in this case, and many others, it is simply about putting the opponent on their butt and moving the puck up ice.

There are a few guys who haven't played well in this series, but won't (or shouldn't) be on next year's team: Giroux, Highmore etc...

Batherson stands out in a bad way because he's a core piece on a long-term deal who has been terrible. Two goals yesterday could be tied directly to him.

If I'm looking to move a player this offseason to bring in help elsewhere or simply clear cap space for an acquisition, Batherson is the guy.

He could have just taken the puck as well though. I don’t expect him to hit like a train.
Yeah, but the hit makes sure of things. The puck could skip over your stick if you do a poke check.

Batherson can hit sometimes when he decides to. This should have been one of those times he decides to hit.

He's not as good as stone. Stone could get away for avoiding going for the hit to take the puck, because he comes away with the puck 95% of the time due to his elite takeaway ability. Batherson does not possess this so he needs to take the body.

Batherson makes hits along the boards usually not very hard.

I’ve never seen him blow someone up cross center ice. I doubt he ever done it once in his whole life.

Batherson certainly screwed up but Cozens did too. Cozens peeled away from Bathersons pass...somehow thinking Benoit will just let the puck go by him. I have no doubt Batherson thought he was going to cut towards him and not the other way... still a risky pass but Cozens didn't help. Same situation on the goal, Cozens check attempt was (not as) weak.

I get everyone is upset at Bathersons effort on the goals but he is a key guy on this team. Hopefully he learned a lot last night and we wont see such things again. Starting tomorrow.

Batherson had a royal eff up, but he isn't the only reason we lost. Rest of our top 6 guys are all ass and Bath has been the best out of our top6, and only one who getting into a spot for high danger chances.

Out of our forward group only Stutzle seems to be tossing the body around consistently. If he can find the will to do so drake Dylan and everyone else damn well can too

I'm more annoyed he didn't rock Domi than the bad pass. No excuse as to why Domi shouldn't have been on his ass.
You don't often get the opportunity to make up for a mistake on the ice, but Drake did, and he tried to make another fancy play, instead of being safe and ensuring Domi couldn't get a shot away.

He was primed to get blown up, but even if he just gets his body in the way, Domi has nothing. To make a weak swipe at the puck as you breeze by him is inexcusable, specifically after the brutal give away in the Leafs zone.

I had just mentioned to my son that most of our team had never played 5-on-5 OT at the NHL level and it could be a problem. To me, those were 3-3, mid season game plays at both end of the rink. Far to0 casual for how important that game was.
