I agree with moving Joseph and Bran but not for Tank. Need someone with more jam.

Given Batherson’s contract he is an integral part of this team’s future success, if any. Hopefully he’s over the HAS.
Tarasenko is a UFA & will cost nothing to sign & if they can pry Kubalik out of Detroit for DeBrincat who makes less than $3 mil that would be a win for Ott. Trade Joseph & Brannstrom for picks or prospects just not roster players. Replace Brannstrom with Kleven & Joseph with Sokolov who are cheaper players to fit everyone into their budget cap. It could work.

I just don’t know about replacing Joseph’s speed, pk, and motor with Soks from a team perspective.

Joseph had 18 pts last yr & 3 goals, I would think at the least that Soko could get more than 4 goals & maybe produce a little more offence depending on who he plays with which more likely would be Pinto who has some offence to his game. I get that Joesph speed is good for forechecking but he brings next to no offence. Soko may be slow but he has some offensive skill to his game & has shown to be a pt producer in Belleville.

He is also waiver eligible this yr & they could lose him if they have to waive him after training camp. I also think Joseph makes way too much for what we get out of him & Soko at under $1 mil would be money better spent. That's basically my justification for Soko & he's been in Belleville for 3 yrs paid his dues, led them in scoring & should be given his opportunity. We'll see how it plays out.

We don't need to trade Joseph at all, he'll bounce back and is basically paid the league average.

We don't need to trade him now.
He'll bounce back .. maybe. Maybe Greig will score 20 . Pinto ups his 20 . Maybe .
If we bet on the best case scenario we probably fall short imo.
It would be nice to have 2 solid wingers for Pinto and slot Greig and Joseph where they belong
I'd bet on Joseph getting more 5v5 goals than he had last year if that's what you mean by bounce back.

Haven't there been a few snags already in the Sokolov contract negotiations?

Where do you think Greig and Joseph should slot?

I am OK with them on the 3rd line - we still have to find that 2LW when Cat is gone though.

Well Greig needs to show he can play 3rd line as an everyday player .. I think he needs more time .. either AHL or 4th line. I think he has 2/3 line potential but he's not there yet
Joseph is a 4th liner. Payed like a 3rd liner.

I would want better proven players there.

I forget where I saw or heard it. It might have been a podcast that was linked in here. My vague memory was that there were some snags and the Senators offer was low.

I think ideally a Joseph type player is a 4th liner for us but we aren't there yet.

Greig is ready to be a 3rd liner for us now IMO and could be a 2nd liner by end of the season. If we get filler so he can get another year in the AHL, I am cool with that as he would get a ton of ice time but I don't think it hinders his growth being on the NHL club.

He is so smart, it is just the physical part, so I am curious to see what sort of shape he is in come training camp. Hopefully he found a way to get some meat on those bones.

Two things for me; 1) we don’t need to lose one at the expense of the other, we actually have room for both on the roster to start the season. 2) There is a good chance Joseph gets back to his normal play at least this year, at which time we could potentially trade him in a hockey trade or get back a small asset, instead of looking to trade him at his lowest value, while potentially having to include a sweetener.

We have little to lose by keeping Joseph to start the season and see if he can bounce back, it won’t even take much for him to do that. Soks has proven very little at the NHL level to warrant choosing him over Joseph in my opinion. I’m just not sold on him yet.

The only reason I’d move Joseph is if we need cap space, which is not an immediate need.

I doubt we would get much back for Joseph considering his AAV, term left, and his outputs. We might not even be able to trade him for nothing back; might have to add a draft pick to get another team to take him.

Drake is our X factor next year.

If he's back to his 2 seasons ago form we will barely feel the loss of DBC, especially with Norris coming back as well.

I remember he also wasn’t scared to throw his body around that year he was easily our best player. Crazy how players like Dell or Cooke can defer a franchises trajectory with dirty plays

Yeah, for us to take a substantial step forward we really need:
1. Drake Batherson to play at the top of his game (all-around scorer, playmaker, forechecker with a decent frame).
2. Thomas Chabot to return to the top of his game.
3. Josh Norris to pick up where he left off.
4. Jakob Chychrun to be the top-4 guy we paid for and to play enough games.
5. Our goaltending tandem to stay relatively healthy and not suck.

And that's assuming that everyone else remains at the same level or improves (e.g. Giroux vs. Father Time)

Wild cards are guys like:
1. Ridley Grieg
2. Dominik Kubalik
3. Shane Pinto
4. Jiri Smejkal
5. Mathieu Joseph

I'm not going to count on them but it would be nice if they took steps forward and/or make solid contributions.

NHL apparently could name up to 8 players involved from the Junior team. Still kind of worried Batherson will be named.

I am not certain why the "NHL" would want to name players before the London PD and crown attorneys take the case to court. Seems to be jumping the gun.

Most important part of all this is getting it right. No one should be able to get away with what the victim is accusing the players off. No one should be accused of what they are being accused of if they didn’t do it.

Wait t for all the facts. This likely dictates the senators making the playoffs or not this year but that’s not what is important right now

1 highly involved, 1 was only briefly there (so I am told - but by people very biased toward the one that apparently wasn't involved).
