Nice try. If it was about the weather, then he wouldn't have signed his last contract to stay in Edmonton.

Not to mention multi-millionaires can own property in or quickly fly to any sort of tropical environment they want during the offseason and live there 365 days a year when they retire in their mid-to-late 30s, should they please. The NHL season is pretty demanding—near-daily practices and half your time on the road—so it's not like these guys are punching out at 5 and pouring margaritas in the sun every day of the week. It's a different type of job.

I think people likely overrate how big of a factor "nice weather" would be to the majority of players, especially when, in this situation, the alternative allows you to continue playing in a familiar organization beside the absolute best player in the world.

People should also not underestimate that the Oilers have the nicest player facilities in the entire league. Sure you're in Edmonton, but the place you go to work is the best in the entire league.
