Because for us to succeed in the playoff we need more than one line. And we aren’t going to find more than 1 line if the moment the team is down a goal the coach goes “don’t worry everyone, they will save us together!”Why does letting Mcdavid and Leon play together get so much hate? When we put them together we actually get extended O zone time and scoring chances.
Mcdavid away from Drai 5 on 5 doesn't even exist these days. It's like watching the 2005 Minnesota Wild. We are starving for offence.
He also resigned for a million. Easily worth his money this season. There nothing special about to say it’s fantastically better that I would single him out in a thread saying how much better he is.
I mean ya he’s doubled his goals scored so far, from 4 to 8, and is on pace for maybe 10. Wow…
Hold me still, I can only get so excited.
It’s akin to suggesting that a player has doubled his scoring output so is 100% better player, “checks stats” and sees said player scored 2 goals instead of 1.
Lol funny thing is mcdavid isn't even in the conversation this year. Not sure how voting is done but Drai is not gonna win the Hart cuz he plays in Edmonton behind McDavid.
This after Drai made an exceptional play in the 2nd
"I think Draisaitl should perhaps be in the Hart conversation. You always hear Mack and McD, but never Leon. He's been good this year i think, why isn't his name up there? " - NYI broadcaster
Guy was dead serious and had to be told Leon was indeed in the race.
Leon deserves it beyond question.
I don't disagree, but when we split them we don't have more than 1 line. We have two "Meh" lines. I really think certain players might elevate their game away from Mcdavid.Because for us to succeed in the playoff we need more than one line. And we aren’t going to find more than 1 line if the moment the team is down a goal the coach goes “don’t worry everyone, they will save us together!”
The Arvidsson, Henrique and Skinner (because they don't use him properly) signings are burning a major hole in the Oilers pockets and I'd also add in Ryan Nothing Happens who brings...what exactly outside of the ugly turnover that led to the game tying goal? Guys like Podkolzin, Brown and Janmark are fine because they combined make less than Viktor Ughvidssson makes alone so they play like $1m players and are paid accordingly. It's the overpaid guys (the guys that are playing like $1-2m players but getting paid much more) that are killing the Oilers now and they can't do anything about it because they all have NMCs lmao, two of them for another year and Nuge for....forever.Don’t forget Adam Henrique who had a lot of votes of confidence going into the season. Yours as well. He’s been utter dogshit, can’t score to save his life and on most nights he plays every bit as badly as Connor Brown. Except worse because he makes more than three times what Brown makes and for an additional year to boot. What a joke of a signing.
Leon’s biggest obstacle to winning another Hart trophy is very few of the writers ever watch Oilers games. Most have no clue how good of a season he’s had.Not sure how voting is done but Drai is not gonna win the Hart cuz he plays in Edmonton behind McDavid.

This what separates NHL media from other major sports. You would never hear this kind of stuff from people covering the NFL, NBA or MLB. The NFL and MLB in particular. People who cover those at a serious level can tell you nearly every player's shoe size and favourite breakfast serial. Many of the people covering the NHL know almost nothing about what happens outside their own teams and if they do it is usually just the teams in their team's division. At the national level it is slightly better but still not even in the ballpark of what you would see in these other leagues. Not sure how voting is done but Drai is not gonna win the Hart cuz he plays in Edmonton behind McDavid.

Lol. We’re both debating the merit and value of a million dollar, single digit scoring, 4th line scrub. I don’t think he’s been worth a pinch of coon shit, but we can disagree. He also resigned for a million. Easily worth his money this season.
.865 points percentage when our goaltending is atleast mediocre. Lol
Also - on flames broadcast they just showed a graphic showing were second in the league in terms of 20+ mph speed bursts. AVS are #1 having just hit 2000, we're at 1875 or so, and rest of top five is around 1500. We're definitely not slow.
Oh, now you’re gonna ride up the anti carbon crowd. Nice job Mooner. Some don't realize that carbon life forms exist West of Toronto.
I may climb up the Calgary Tower to make my point. HOF boards won't suffice.Oh, now you’re gonna ride up the anti carbon crowd. Nice job Mooner.![]()

On a more serious note, surely Knob now realizes that once you get past Drai, Mc-d and Hyman--Savoie is probably the only other guy who might score a goal in the playoffs? What more evidence does he need? I suspect Savoie will be back in the Oiler's lineup after the Ranger's game on Sunday. I mean, you can only be stubborn to a certain point?--right??
Idk--how many laps around the perimeter does Kapanen make before you realize that there could be a better option? If only some of these guys were a little more physical. It's not the ice capades.I don’t know.
I know we are both of similar vintage, not sure if you agree, but I’ve found in life that extremely successful people are those that can adapt and change with changing circumstances. It’s a large part of why they are successful.
But, and it’s a big but, I also find that they often have a significant blind spot, at times, to their exposed weakness. I think this is what is happening with KK right now. Younger, less experienced coach, but still very successful, took the team to GM 7, not sure he recognizes the need to make that change. Probably believes he can “fix” the scoring woes himself with the present players on the roster. On the other hand, he too was in the AHL last season when an NHL team took a chance on him, so he has a kindred spirit in Savoie or any other AHL call up to make his mark.
It’s not working as is, so calling up Savoie wouldn’t be wrong.
I would honestly take present day yamamoto over this guy. He's uselessArvidsson pooping himself and skating into the corner in OT is a microcosm of his season. This guy is just Swedish Yakupov.
A 30 point, bottom 6 player that kills penalties and is getting paid a million. Any team in the league would be happy with that.Lol. We’re both debating the merit and value of a million dollar, single digit scoring, 4th line scrub. I don’t think he’s been worth a pinch of coon shit, but we can disagree.
I definitely agree on Brown. He had a great game. There was that goal he missed, but imo that was a harder shot than it seems. It was on the rush and the defense was right there. Sure, a true top six scorer would have got that one in but Brown is what he is. He plays good defense and and has a bit of offense. In isolation this game was fine. Heavily outplayed the Islanders on the 2nd night of a b2b and gutted out a win. However in the context of the entire season it’s obvious that scoring goals is right behind goaltending as a major issue. You can’t make every goalie look like Hasek out there. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even consider point blank looks a great scoring chance unless it’s Draisaitl shooting it.
Surprised to see the amount of hate directed at Brown. The bonus was a sunk cost whether they brought him back or not. For the $1 mill he signed for he’s been fine. I was hoping for more but there are far bigger problems with this forward group.
They’ve given Podkolzin and Arvidsson basically all year with Draisaitl and it hasn’t worked. I don’t want to see either player in the top 6 ideally for the rest of the year but for sure not as a pair. RV, unless he magically gets hot should stay in the bottom 6 and be dumped in the offseason.
Lots of talk about the mismanagement of Jeff Skinner which I largely agree with. He’s far from a perfect player but has cleaned up his game defensively and has not been given an extended look. Knob needs to check his ego and just give Skinner a chance. Makes me remember the ridiculousness of his the demotion in training camp.
I’ve heard less chatter about the mismanagement of Henrique. The player himself has obviously fallen off but as a coaching staff you need to work with what you have. Playing him as the 3C all year and trying to recreate the playoff magic with Brown and Janmark was obviously a fool’s errand. They needed to give him an extended look on the wing where his lack of footspeed could be hidden. He also hasn’t been given an extended serious look on a scoring line which is a missed opportunity.
On the plus side Walman is a huge add and if Ekholm comes back anywhere close to the level he showed previously this will be one of the best D cores in the league.

As my brother in law says, the day a man gets married, his wife puts his balls in her purse. He got married.
Man that was a hell of a team to watch. I was living in Calgary at the time and had seats down low. It's was amazing to watch that group.
I had a helluva time too with not getting the two-factor codes sent by email but they’re sending now (obviously-lol).I can finally login. Good to see everyone. Great performance from Drai and Pickles.
