Doesn’t matter.

“Allowed another shot over his shoulder with a minute left, goes down too quick again blah blah blah”

The quality of goal that goes in on Skinner doesn’t seem to matter anymore. The derangement syndrome is such that the fact he let in a breakaway goal is dominating discussion in a 3-2 win where he had a .930+ SV%. It’s insane.
Well it does. No one stops that shot. Lots of goalies stop that breakaway.

Yeah the “oopsie” goals are far too common with this team. The overpassing especially in key scoring areas was really annoying. McDavid in particular didn’t even have a shot on net. He had a terrible game offensively.
Mcdavid is too predictable these days forcing passes, won’t go to the net, not aggressive. Not sure what happened after he scored 64. Mcdavid has only 2 shots a game over his last 12 or something.

Ekholm needed to take the puck deep on his puck carry. Instead to gave Brown a poor pass that he wasn’t prepared for and flushed another poor pass to Bouchard.

First pair is elite but have been some big turover wobbles. This game with 3 breakaways could have & should have been locked in at 2-0.

The puck management by the top pair has been abysmal lately, Ekholm included.

There are plenty of shots that most goalies wouldn’t stop, but that matters less when it’s Skinner it seems.

When he lets in a goal that isn’t his fault it’s “it would be nice if he made a big save when the team needed it once in a while.” That’s where that one would have landed.

Bouchard alone has probably cost us 4 wins. Would be in first.

I think the five man unit together has had some wobbles. Maybe not coincidental Nurse was on the ice late game for the Stack Line Draisaitl winner.

Draisaitl’s been an absolute two way beast this year. Think his line has been more consistent in their own zone team defending. Top line 5 have the best talent and face best competition with high skill and high risk reward. But more high risk breakdowns this year I think.

Dostal makes like 850k...

Shame we can’t go in a Time Machine and hand pick the Top 10 goalies in the league to add them to our roster while on their ELC or ELC+1.

What a dumb team for not doing that.

I don’t agree. 99% of hockey fans know that’s just a ridiculous shot.

All the things that used to frustrate us about Draisaitl (defensive nonchalance, dumb turnovers, over passing, etc) seem to have left Leon’s game this year, but then infected McDavid’s game.

McDavid is somewhat baffling this year. Still obviously producing and driving, but some bad habits have seemed to creep into his game for whatever reason and they’re things that need fixing before the playoffs. Especially the no look turnovers after looking off Grade A’s the the total refusal to shoot the puck or go to the net at times.

Game plan against Oilers is stop McDavid beat the Oilers. He gets top competition every night with top pair defenders. Think the game plan is keep him outside, flood coverage on him, & force others to beat you. He’s still elite production but getting caught with some of his high risk viruosity.

Hard for me to critique too much a player producing at apex historic levels. He wears the target every night.

I’m more ‘concerned’ about the higher turnovers by top pair & challenge of Bouch facing stronger gameplanning focus to aggressively challenge his time and space. Another development step for this young elite defender.

Teams seemed to have been keying on Bouchard’s tendency to want to hold pucks high in the zone regardless of pressure. I’ve noticed that teams are jumping on him immediately when he gets the puck and he doesn’t seem to have “just send it to the corner” when pressured in his DNA.

Another solid game for Skinner! that's now 10 out of his last 12 games with a save % of 0.923 or higher, pretty pretty good :)
Solid game? Seriously? The stats are misleading. Any half decent chance is in the back of the net. Even the saves he does make he struggles with the puck and or rebound.

So does Logan Thomson in Washington. Both much better than Skinner. About a dozen goalies in league easy to spot, making less than Skinner are better goalies than Skinner. I don't know what it is with this notion he's *only* making 2.6M/ and so this is all we can expect. lol

Like I expect a pro goalie with pro goalie skills to be the starter on a contending club. Its just basic laziness on the part of the org they haven't addressed our goalie deficit.

You'd have to wonder if a lot of posters even watch 60mins of the game. Apparently it was shit on Drai time in the GDT again. Ironically the player who has been best on team all season and got the winner on a sublime beauty. In first period Skinner completely lost a puck in front of net, didn't have a clue where it was. Fortunately an Oiler got to the puck first. Skinner was turning his head looking all over. On another play behind net he passes the puck right to a Duck. Its the only Duck in the zone, and Skinner gives him a pass. Would have been an assist if any Duck was around. I said he was shaky even at zero goals allowed.

Those same fans seem to find a way to mind shift when it’s Skinner allowing those goals.

He’s getting shredded for allowing a breakaway goal for Christ sakes.
Not at all. People are commenting that on 3 breakaways he stopped none. The goal and two posts, both with room, that beat him clean.

Ducks had 6HDSC. 2GA 2posts. What a batting average. Skinner didn't even make a handful of quality stops last night, was outclassed entirely by Dostal who had to save his club several X, and who was facing the most dangerous players in hockey. Skinner was facing a popgun offense that rarely scores.

Yeah hes top 7 in the league in save% over the past month and a half, he sucks. Hes just lucky basically every time he saves the puck, I agree.

Think its clear game plan. Bouchard is an elite killer with his shot & distributing. Given time and space he’ll kill you with either. Biggest PP adjustment against has been to takeway Bouchard’s time and space which destabilizes a massive part of the PP’s success. Flood McDavid & take away cross seamers to Draisaitl in his office. Far more blocked shots & missed nets for Bouch who is a precision shooter.

Carryover to 5v5 play we see more turnovers at the blueline with Ekholm & Bouchard limited speed creating long odd man rushes. They are elite first pairing and do so much massively right. But this is a game plan that can create team breakdowns which create vilnerability for their goaltenders. It’s not about volume of scoring chances against but rather high quality created when team defending falters.

This fan base needs a whipping boy. Nurse is playing well and skinner had a bad October so he’s the new guy. They made their mind up about him it doesn’t matter what he does the rest of the year.
