1) The league save percentage is .900 so by the literal definition he is below, lol.

2) Did Stu forget when the season started?
1) now stretch the sample to 2 years. And realize he was always going to get back to what he is, average to slightly above. Which is playing out right in front of our eyes for a 3rd year in a row.

2) the entire team took the biggest kick in the nuts you could possible take in hockey with SCF game 7 loss. Our 6-0 drubbing to start the season (Stu’s worst performance by the way) was a result of the entire team being shit to start. Or do you not remember the “is McDavid washed” discussions as we all tried to figure out wtf was happening.

Bring up Savoie, and go like this.

Nuge - McDavid - Arvidsson
Podkolzin - Draisaitl - Savoie
Hyman - Janmark - Brown
Skinner - Henrique - Perry

Do it.

I mean he is average....he has a .907 save % since November 1st
again, you don't like him and seems like you wish he was Shesterkin but he isn't
I wish he was one of these average guys that you’re talking about. Not a Shesterkin. We can have a goalie achieving a much higher save percentage given our top of the league defensive numbers. How does a team like the ducks have a goalie posting a higher save percentage than Skinner? Plus he makes less money.

We arent looking for him to bail out our offense constantly.

We're looking for him to not lose us games like he loves to do.

And Anaheim had 3 breakaways, 1 muffin shot that went in, and 2 posts.

One post actually. Unless you disagree with the official boxscore. Anaheim going 1/3 on breakaways isn't the negative that you think it is by the way.

And if you don't want Skinner to lose us games you should be pretty happy with his play as of late. And you definitely shouldn't be complaining in a thread where he posted a 0.931.

I guess if you remove a bunch of bad games to make his stats look better, they'll look better.

If you remove all the games McDrai have 0 points, their stats look way better too.

He posted a .931 and that second goal can still be a terrible goal to give up.

Both can be true.

Let’s not act like Leaf’s fans here with hypothetical series wins with these hypothetical Skinner failings.

If Skinner was as bad as everyone says, can we keep it to actual fails (goal 2 tonight), and not hypothetical fails (1 or 2 posts). Or hypothetical almost giving away the puck on a stick handle.

Things either happened or they didn’t happen. Almost happened doesn’t count.

It’s how our team is built.

If people want it the other way, go be a rags fan I guess, cause Shesty better be carrying with his ridiculous cap hit.
I do agree on this point. Stu is worth his contract for the most part. It's not his fault that he's been asked to backstop a cup contender. I just think having an appropriately paid sub 3 million dollar goaltender is the wrong way to build a cup contender.

And my biggest fear for this team going forward is his next contract going forward. At the start of the season there was chatter about comparing Stu and his next contract to Swayman's new one. This would be a catastrophe of epic proportions.

Trust me, my feelings on Stu would pull a 180 if he got paid Swayman numbers. But I really don’t see that happening. Sway was challenging Vezina Ullmark for his job. Whatever that chatter was, was not based in reality.

And yes it’s not his fault he’s performing avaerage as an average paid goalie. That’s why the Stu hate should be dialed down. If anything, it was the Campbell disaster that could have tanked this McD experiment for good. We should be happy that our 4th rd pick emerged, credit should be given, not vitriol.

It's sad how many people on here actually want Skinner (and the Oilers with him) to fail just so they can be "right". That's not what being a fan is.
No one wants Skinner to fail. He didn't have a good game despite having a good save percentage. I'm not a Skinner fan but he's been way too inconsistent. I want nothing more than for him to succeed but to this point the he hasn't been good enough over the course of the year.

Skinner's night is an interesting one. I'm not going to bitch about a .930, but both goals against were Ugly (and earned that capital U).

Plus they highlighted Skinner's main weakness: For a goalie that relies so much on his positioning vs. reflexes to make saves, his focus wanders and he ends up a step behind where he should be far too often.

Which is especially annoying, because you can look at something like the Tampa game, where he's not making lunging saves, but his positioning was near flawless the entire night. He can do it, but at this point it's not with any week-to-week consistency.

The forward combos are still a bit worrisome, not a lot of chemistry. Arvidsson immediately scored when put with McDavid, we should try to give that a go, try some different things at least.

Podkolzin McDavid Arvidsson
Henrique Draisaitl Kapanen
Skinner RNH Hyman
Perry Janmark Brown

I'd don't really mind the idea of using Hyman as a catalyst for line 3 at least temporarily.

I would let Savoie cook a bit longer in the AHL, let his confidence grow, maybe bring up Philp.

I know you don’t. And I know alot of poster that don’t but would still like to see him upgraded on. But it’s not “no one”. There are some who relish his failure, it’s like party time in here for them when he fails.

McDavid needs to start shooting too, he's back into one of his "never gonna shoot" spells.

Had the puck in prime position to shoot at least two times in the near slot and instead chose to pass out to Drai and another time to do a drop pass.

Like c'mon dude. There's no team that loves to pass out of a high danger shot opportunity more than this team.

Lets do a New Years Resolution, no drop passes for at least a month, please.
