I've seen fans go from bashing a player to embracing him. Most even became Broberg fans before his offer sheet. Skinner seems to do okay but take the worst starter in the league, and they make big saves and can get the occasional shutout. What counts are stats over time, consistency over time, and how good the team plays in front. These lean against Skinner
It depends on how Skinner is being framed by the descriptor.

Stats over time have him as Average.

Stats over time do not have him as the worst goalie to ever lace em up with an ugly moustache and fat ass.

Weird feeling tonight. Happy for the win of course, and the fact that the lesser lights had a large hand in the result. But strange having McDavid have a mediocre evening and nothing to show for it.

Anaheim only hit one post. The Oilers hit three.

And Draisaitl should be bailing the team out. That's why he's paid the big bucks. People looking for our $2.6 million goalie to constantly bail out our offence are looking at it the wrong way.
It’s how our team is built.

If people want it the other way, go be a rags fan I guess, cause Shesty better be carrying with his ridiculous cap hit.

You need to take your head out of the clouds in regards to Skinner. I never said we could win 0-0.
he's average....nothing more, nothing less...if you want elite goaltending, you need to pay Hellebuyck prices
doesn't change the fact that 2 players with a combined 6 Art Ross trophies and 4 MVPs between them managed 1 single point in 3 Games in Florida

A lot of people on here struggle to realize this.

It's amazing how low the bar for our star studded forward group is on here compared to the bar set for our goalie getting paid backup money.

Incoming Moustache fans screaming ".931!" at you for the rest of the evening. As if the Oil didn't just dominate chances and HDCA.

Yet again, second best goalie on the night. Good thing we have a generational superstar to salt it away.

i only say .931 because I agreed to post a meme each time an oilers goalie posts a sv% above.900

Is that a goof goal post I hear changing?

Goof want a Vezina?

Now you're just trolling. I never said I want him to win a Vezina.

My point is simply that everyone acknowledges already that save percentage is a flawed metric - and shoeed that goaltenders aren't ranked by save percentage basically ever by using the example that the Vezina, the award given to the best goaltender, doesn't always go to the goaltender with the best save percentage.

If the Vezina doesn't go to the best save percentage, either the winner of the Vezina is not the best goaltender, or the best save percentage does not equal the best goaltender.

Does that make sense? It's called the transitive property.

This average talk is nonsense, his physical abilities aren’t up to snuff. I would rather Pickard get the reigns. I’m really starting to think the players agree. Lots of weird facial expressions from them and weird antics from Skinner. There has to be tension brewing.

Well we should have high expectations of our Stars. But we should also acknowledge 9 times out 10 they reach those expectations and are great for us. I got no issues with McDrai.

More of the issue is not placing proper expectations on an average goalie paid to be average (or below).

If people don’t think average is good enough, welp take it up with the GM I guess. But I don’t see how that’s Stu’s fault or warrants the hate.

I do understand people when they want us to upgrade, but like sure I wanted us to upgrade Ceci and Vinny and Ryan and whoever too. But there’s contraints in a Cap League with limited players available. There needs to be some understanding of that.

I mean thats just completely false. He has perfectly average starting goaltender stats this year overall and has been trending up for the past month and a half, he is top 5 in the league in save% since november 22nd. Youre just out here lying.

1) The league save percentage is .900 so by the literal definition he is below, lol.

2) Did Stu forget when the season started?

Like I said. It’s only flawed because you want it to be. On a night when his save percentage is trash you’d hold it up like the goof gospel.

All I’ll say if that Skinner is the goalie and it’s not gonna change so either get behind it or just continue to whine like a miserable little bitch about it.
Your second point makes no sense.

Should we just be happy with below average goaltending, because its not going to change?

Skinner has been average and trending to be above since October ended. Everyone sucked in October. Who played good? Jeff skinner maybe?

I mean he is average....he has a .907 save % since November 1st
again, you don't like him and seems like you wish he was Shesterkin but he isn't

We arent looking for him to bail out our offense constantly.

We're looking for him to not lose us games like he loves to do.

And Anaheim had 3 breakaways, 1 muffin shot that went in, and 2 posts.

I really liked Drai’s honest post game comments. He knows that despite his late game heroics, that he didn’t have a great game. Mentioned too many giveaways and needed to cut back on them. Seeing some real growth in him this year, on and off the ice.
Too bad our turd in net has no self awareness.

He could let in 4 goals on 8 shots and think he had a good game.
