I think there's nuance because save percentage is a flawed metric that doesn't tell the whole story.

Higher is better generally - when comparing apples to apples but your can't just compare two goaltenders save percentage on the night because they aren't always apples to apples. Not all shots are created equally or carry the same percentage chance of scoring, and not all players have the same likelihood of scoring.

Again - we had twice as many scoring chances and twice as many high danger chances - and our players are generally more dangerous.
It’s a flawed metric when you want it to be but perfectly acceptable when it works in your viewpoints favour. Let’s call a spade a spade.

It was 12 to 6 for Edmonton.

Total chances were 30 to 18 for Edmonton.
Thanks. Basically confirms what I thought I saw.

Does anyone know if Skinner at least managed to match the expected goals against tonight?

He didn’t actually make a good save all night. The one breakaway ANH would have been credited with a shot they scored on (the two others hit the post).

I really liked Drai’s honest post game comments. He knows that despite his late game heroics, that he didn’t have a great game. Mentioned too many giveaways and needed to cut back on them. Seeing some real growth in him this year, on and off the ice.

Its really unfortunate our achilles heel is substandard goaltending. It results as stated in our team having to gut out a close win against a club that look like imbeciles in their own zone. Only Dostal kept it a game,.
Our Achilles heel is scouting that hasn’t produced anything outside of the first round in decades. The same scouting that landed us Jack Campbell who isnt going to finish his contract in the NHL.

It matters if your main concern is WINNING though. And winning includes alot more than just the nuances of a goaltenders performance.

Not particularly - it's always a flawed metric. Always has been.

It's 2025 now, we have more nuanced numbers that define goaltenders performances now a days. Like goals saved above expected.

Which Skinner ranks 40th per 60 minutes amongst goaltenders that have atleast 10 GP.

Oh Shiii-

I just realized that last game Leon Draisaitl finally passed Dany “f***ing rockstar” Heatley for most goals ever scored by a German born player.

How was this not reported on?!

Leon Draisaitl is officially the greatest German hockey player of all time, the German Gretzky, if you will — and now holds all pertinent records.
I had no idea Heatley was German. I always thought Marco Sturm was Germany’s best player.

I'm not gonna disagree here either. For sure.

That said there some quiet assessments like Kapanen and Emberson that are looking awfully good. Years prior the Oilers obtained Bjugstad, Kostin. Its the quiet unheralded moves they seem to do OK with. Generally when they go for the fences its gone wrong more than right. With Kap and Emberson I'm hoping the scouting assessment could be improving?

My statement of losing more then winning in 1 goal games was true until tonight with not my fault in Skinner in net. He is now 6 wins 6 Loses in 1 goal games this year.
Of these 12 one goal games he has 7 games where he has blown the leads in 3rd period, the team could only win 2 of those games.

1 goal game wins
Philly 4-3 OT
Calgary 4-2 but empty netter 5 seconds left
Islanders 4-3OT 3rd period blown lead, 850 save %
Tampa 2-1 gave up 20 shots
Boston 3-2 first 3-2 win on the season
Tonight Ducks 3-2 blew a 2-0 lead Drai bailed them out.

1 Goal losses
Car 3-2 OT blew a 2-0 lead in 3rd period they got 3 goals on last 11 shots
Vegas 4-2 empty netter with 5 seconds left, another blown 3rd period lead
Toronto 4-3 OT another blown 3rd period lead 810 save%
Vegas 1-0
Florida 6-5 another epic 3rd period blown lead 3 goals on 10 shots, 786 save %
Kings 4-3 OT another blown lead in 3rd period, gave up 5 shots 862 Save%
Tambo you seemed confused about your cherry picked games. You understand the team won't win every game every night right?

Redemption win for giving up the lead.. again. I liked Nurse and Brown with strong games. I didn’t like how the Oilers played in the second half of this one
