Draft Lottery Winners. What Would Be The Biggest Story?

Going out on a limb and going to assume your 1 key failed you here like my computer sometime does to me, and you actually meant guaranteed 2 top 15 picks.

Nope apparently just decided to skip over the entire atlantic divison when doing it lol. Doing that makes it 5th and 7th. With close enough teams to knock both to 5th or worse lol.

Biggest story for the Canucks would be they would finally get to draft 1st overall in the history of the franchise.

To be fair they had a chance to. But decided drafting 2 #1 pick players at 2 and 3 was more important then the 1st overall.

Burke was critized for the move. But i am sure there are not many canuck fans 15 years later saying it wasnt smart idea.

Edmonton - 5th 1st overall within 9 years. McDavid/Dhalin has to be idiot proof? Even Chia Proof?

Hoping for the Oilers not just because I'm an Oilers fan, but also just to see the HF meltdown and the "Rasmus Dahlin should pull a Lindros" "Dahlin will be the biggest bust since Nail Yakupov" threads that will pop up.

New York Islanders nabbing a top 3 pick via the Hamonic trade would be beyond hilarious as well.

Edmonton would cause the biggest reaction and have this site crash again, but the Hawks winning would be 2nd.

Best story would be either Arizona or Vancouver winning it. Neither of those teams have drafted #1 overall.
buffalo hasn't either

Are you implying that the guy chasing down his 2nd consecutive Art Ross, and best player in the world, isn't worth the raise. We all know Edmonton isn't as bad as their record indicates. Good teams have bad years in a league with so much parity, when circumstance doesn't go their way.

If the Oilers were dumb enough to let Mcdavid go to RFA then there would be 30 teams offering him 15 million for 7 years.

Not really understanding this "Detroit has to suffer before they deserve one"

The draft isn't designed solely to reward suffering fans. If any team has truly earned the right to say "we tried our goddamn best but this time we need some freebie help from the league" it's Detroit.

And I still hate Detroit despite the conference move. Personally I'd welcome a team that actually tried to improve its team instead of one coasting on lackadaisical efforts while having the draft as a crutch to win (not gonna use the word tanking). Even if I really don't want to see a Detroit return to dominance, if they can build a proper team around someone like Dahlin without this coasting style of management they deserve to return to contention.

If Matthews was only born 2 days earlier he would have been eligible for the 2015 draft and chances are he goes 3rd overall to Arizona instead of Dylan Strome.
Yeah, that would have been fortuitous, but the way it played out in real life proves to me that the draft isn't fixed.

IMO, nobody ever "deserves" the pick more than anyone else. If you're bad you get better odds, but no one's fandom outranks anyone else.
Agreed. Now granted, I held that you could make the argument that the first three first overall picks, sure. Edmonton fans deserved something to cheer about. Believe it or not I've always had respect for Edmonton fans for sticking through the nightmare that has been the last decade +. I may have given off an alternate impression given how upset I was that Edmonton was the team that got to pick McDavid. But I believe Edmonton fans deserve better management, ownership, and coaching rather than the best handout every year.

I think Edmonton fans deserve to NOT get Dahlin because changes still need to happen for the Oilers and there isn't going to be a whole lot of pressure for those changes if they just get rewarded another potentially generational talent for failing once again.

Dahlin to a big market like Montreal

It will also help the rivalry storylines
Dahlin vs Matthews, Eichel, Karlsson, Hedman

Yeah, I would probably say McDavid doesn't deserve his money. Edmonton is a classic example of a junk organization that got excited with a new toy and went out and pulled off a historic and inflationary deal they didn't need to make last summer.
