NHL Draft lottery race - Bruins currently have 5th Pick

So we generally agree with order, but disagree with value. Like you I would take Eklund at 7 but even that feels like a major dropoff. SO once again I stated with the 4th worst record we are safe. At 5 we are on the fringe, you and I like Eklund, many do. But he is a step below the top 6 almost everywhere and he is an undersized player.

But if we are in 6th place, and get pushed down two slots, I have O'Brien and Mrtka who I would take but not love. I like O'Brien alot, but if we are talking 4 years away, I thought we could do better with such a high pick. I would take it, but I wouldn't be thrilled given the immediate needs after such an abysmal season. And Mrtka, is a big strong d playing tons of minutes, but I don't get the sense he is a future No. 1 d. Maybe I am wrong there.

Given the season we have had, I would not be happy with McQueen at all. I hope we are not the team taking that risk. Same goes for Carter Bear.
I want top 6 because it’s got centers there- one report on Desnoyers

Right. You have to be worst 4 to guarantee top 6 given the random nature of ping pong balls. At the end of the day I will be happy with a top 6 pick and not as happy but still happy with Eklund. Anything else we are rolling with the punches as much as I like what I have read about OBrien.

Of course if we get 7 or 8 and one of the top guys falls then alleluia. It’s really those top 6 players and I feel we really need to land one. Okay with Eklund I mean a dynamic player with skill and a nonstop motor works in todays NHL just feels different.

Desnoyers is where I’m landing right now but never seen him play

Frondell has a huge fan base

Saw Hagens live Friday and seen him 3 times live this season ~ I’d love it if was Nick Suzuki of Montreal but others may think to low.

Keller comes to mind - took him 3-4 years but he’s a stud now

I have saw Denoyers play Dan and he is legit as they come. The puck is always around him .Very heady player and plays like an over ager in that league.Picking him would probably be a homerun longterm for the Bruins.I wouid be more then happy landing him.

It's kind of funny to me how the anti tank measures of the double lottery forces teams to tank even harder in order to still be in the range they want to be.

The tank watch rolls on. Key games tonight:
Preds Vs. Flyers
Kraken Vs Stars

Hoping for a 3 point game out of Preds/Flyers and the Kraken squeaking out any points against a wagon of a Stars team.

I think this can be a relatively quick turnaround honestly.
Sure, but 2-3 seasons is relatively quick in hockey terms. Even if we somehow win the #1 pick this year, I don’t think should be expecting a Cup run anytime soon. At least I hope that isn’t the mindset. To me, that’s a clear path to mediocrity.

Next year should be about letting the young guys play for a full season, selectively shedding dead weight where possible, and taking on contract money for picks at the deadline. Then, depending on how we have restocked and grown, we can talk about re-investing in the off season and re-emerging.

I think we need to hunker down and accept what we’re not accustomed to for a bit.

If thats their plan for next year, they should continue the tank in fast forward mode, but in all honesty I don't see Sweeney going that route and if he does he'll be shown the door, before he can say McKenna

Really good post. It will be hopefully short-term pain but in a couple of years you should have at least a better read on your younger players and who you want to be part of the “re-tool” vs those who don’t. Then you have a clearer picture of the holes that need to be addressed via FA (or trades) to try to fill them in.

Even though the Bruins are not high on elite type prospects, they do have some talent in their system. IF they can get 3-4 of them to fill that road that actually goes a long way to filling that roster.

IMO, despite what some of us think at times, there is talent on the current roster. It’s just being buried by being surrounded by non-NHL quality players.

I’d rather see them sign an offensive player or two and go for it to be honest I’m hoping for wild card contention and a taste of the playoffs next year. Then the following year hopefully insert our drafted player somewhere in the top 9 hopefully top 6 by the end of the year like the DeBrusk development path early with a much higher ceiling.

I think we have most of the D. If Lindholm wasn’t such a severe injury I’d say we had it covered. 1 Jokiharu level signing gets us there.

Still for me,

Zadorov, Lohrei and Lindholm on LD
McAvoy and Peeke on right. Jokiharju or a similarly priced player is all we need there.

At goalie we have to trade Swayman or more likely pray that he rebounds to full form next season. That’s where my money is. It is a gamble. But it is hard to find his level of talent. That deal will be a great bargain soon.

I see Desnoyers play often, he reminds in some ways of Bergeron with more offensive upside.

I had Shane Malloy from Hockey Prospect Radio on my podcast today and he says that Caleb Desnoyers is a slam dunk for what the Bs need, and he fits the mold with the club stylistically.

Episode drops tomorrow.
Great get - Malloy is great. What is your podcast again?

100% Desnoyers, 6"2 physical 2-way center with an offensive touch.
I would love for the Bruins to trade up to #4-5 pick but I could see Desnoyers go #3.
Gonna find out..I can see Bruins dropping into 4 slot because they are simply not very good.If they start winning now however, it would suck for the longterm hope. They need that centre and this kid fits the bill bigtime.
