NHL Draft lottery race - Bruins currently have 4th Pick

I don't see the NHL as having a tanking problem, unless you are upset a team like Boston traded away form UFA at the deadline. This is nothing like the NBA I don't see teams shutting down marginally injured player who would normally be playing for the season with 6-10 weeks to go in the season. I don't see teams sitting out key healthy players for rest days. I dont see teams benching their best players in the 3rd period of close games.

I don't think the Bruins are tanking. they are missing their top 2 defensemen with very legitimate injuries. They are still playing their #1 goalie most nights. they have not called up a bunch of overmatched kids to play. They are still riding Pasta heavily every night.

And look around the league. The Sharks and blackhawks are awful Beyond them you see all of the other "tank" teams playing hard and playing their best players on a nightly basis. The fans may be rooting for th tank, but the players on the ice are playing hard out there

I wasn't comparing the NHL to anyone. The Bruins have decided to do a 2 month tank
and see if they can land a high end prospect instead of chasing a PO birth. If you're a STH like Lady Fan and spend a couple of thousand bucks a year for what you thought was going to be a competitive season, I would be unhappy at what I am paying for now. NHL and other leagues could curtail this by incentivizing teams to not accelerate a race to the bottom.

I honestly don't think they are "tanking"

There is a total lack of talent and they decided to look at the future.

That's a risk you take when you buy season tickets

They have opted to flush the season down the toilet by selling hard at the deadline instead of doing some buying. That to me is another form of tanking.

I agree with what they decided but it would be better to reward teams to compete to win so why I offered up a #1 pick PO system.

I’ll take it one further - they should start sitting veterans now - after this game. Do we want Pasta getting an injury in a meaningless game 80? Use the call ups and start sitting the veterans for protection. The teams who solidify their playoff position do it (and don’t care about the feelings of season ticket holders), we should be doing the same.

It’s inane - no team is going to want to play extra games to compete for a draft pick. And the players certainly wouldn’t want to do that. They’re ready for family time and the beach.

There are all sorts of plans out there, the Hold Plan being the most prevalent. But for the NHL, this is a solution in search of a problem. It really isn’t an issue.

Adding was not going to magically make them better....and how was it going to happen without trading the players traded with poor prospects and few picks... not to mention salary cap

This team did not need a bandaid it needed surgery

The NHL would then see the trade deadline devalued, rendered almost useless, and they clearly do not want that to happen.

Hey, the Gold plan would really punish bad teams, and give huge assist to mediocre ones to jump back in the playoff race quickly, while also limiting the trade deadline even further.

Of course adding could make them better, they had a #1 and Lohrei for tradeable assets. Why do you think trades are made.

They had the best record in the league and added several players...how did that work out...it helped get us to where we are today

Again trading picks got us to where we are....and where would our offense come from the D without Lohrei?

Face it there was no fix to this years team

Not to worry- that scoreline tonight flattered them immensely. Pasta and his line were on fire, Sway was sharp, but the Canes could have had 4 goals easy- they were not firing on all cylinders. It was good win because you see the relief on all of them but they weren’t that much better than they have been overall.
I don't want to listen to Jeremy Swayman.

Lol, players bolt off to Europe to play in the WC every year. Poor babies have to play tops 3 more games for the organizations that pay them millions, oh the humanity.

You expect anyone to believe Marchand & Bergeron and every single Bruin fan wouldn't have wanted to play or watch in 2015 with McDavid sitting there?

I don’t think so no. It’s a really bad idea and it’s never going to happen in any sport.

For those conspiracy theorists out there, seeing PITT in the race is scary.
The timing is perfect, with Sid on the 18th green.
Maybe Bettman will wait till next year so Mario can get a generational talent.
What's hilarious is that then Penguins GM Eddie Johnston later admitted what anyone with eyes saw at the time: Pittsburgh deliberately tanked to gain the number one selection in the 1984 draft.

Mario Lemieux.

Part owner Mario & his genius management team, of course, benefitted handsomely from a curious bit of luck twenty plus years later when, ah, the lottery gods rewarded Pitt's miserable 2003-2004 regular season record (23-47-8-4, dead last) with the #1 draft pick in *that* draft.

Sydney Crosby.

Scroll down for the rigging conspiracy theory,
