Not very often (Espo & Hodge), and thats my point the Bruins are more than a year away from a playoff return unless Sweeney can land Marner or bring in a couple top 6 forwards which is very unlikely.

Even with a bad year from their franchise goaltender, with their #2 defenseman hurt all year, and some serious underachieving around the lineup, the Bruins were still very much in the playoff hunt until they lost their #1 defenseman in the stupid midseason exhibition tournament

They were, but their a far cry from that team which wasn't very deep to begin with and were never a lock for a playoff spot with or without a healthy McAvoy, and then you subtract, Marchand, Carlo ,Coyle and Frederic. Add to that no one knows really if and when Lindholm will be back and if your getting the same player. He suffered a pretty damaging injury. McAvoy still recovering from his shoulder, hopefully its not on going, but there's a lot of questions right now, and this years first pick isn't a guaranteed to pay immediate dividends.

So im just not seeing a playoff team next year unless a Poitras, Minten or whoever they pick with their top pick lights the league on fire, which is highly unlikely, but possible.

Im all for a Marner signing, he is their only sure ticket for a playoff spot next year imo, outside of that, I think they'll be sellers at the deadline like this year, but I dont see it being a sellers market like it was this year.

2018 Washington (Ovechkin)
2020 and 2021 Tampa (Kucherov)

Tampa did have elite players at other positions (Hedman and Vasy), but Kucherov was their best player. Washington even more so was carried by Ovechkin with Holtby contributing really good goaltending.

To your point though, yes you have to build down the middle.

2018 Kuz was the MVP on their run, they were strong in the middle that season

Point is a legit 1C, Hedman was a top 3/5 Dman in the league, Vasi the best goalie in the World

Frondell is a guy if he’s there going to be hard to pass up sounds like - haven’t really deep dived but looking forward to checking him out
Yeah I’ve checked him out and he looks like the real deal. My concern there is he seems to be more of scorer than a playmaker? Maybe I’m wrong there.

I think they will make the playoffs next year. Without signing Marner. With Marchand as their captain.

They are more like looking as a bottom3 team in the Atlantic than a top 4 team in the Atlantic

This season is going to do wonders for Ottawa, they have lot of fresh young talent in the roster looking to get better, not worse. In key positions, Stutzle, Tkachuk, Cozens etc

Montreals forward group is starting to hit their prime and they are adding Kucherov 2.0 into their lineup with a non rookie Hutson. They are a 2C away from being legit

Their absolute ceiling is WC spot for next season, is that something to sacrifice the future for? Be in a race, never good enough to be taken seriously

Who said anything about sacrificing the future?

2nd round picks are late unfortunately, but it would be nice to get Nathan Behm. Kristian Wpperson could be solid, and Wang would be a fun project.

Maybe. I watched the Panthers - habs games and to me Marchand looked a step behind all night. He just didn't look like the Marchand I've been used to seeing. It Could be because he's still fighting to get into game shape after being out for an extended period of time, but of note I don't think Maurice was to impressed either or he realizes Marchy is still rounding back into game shape, because even without Barkov and Tkachuk out of the line-up Marchand still wasn't on the ice, when the panthers pulled their goalie with over 2 minutes to play. Marchand went on for the last face-off with around 11-12 seconds left.

I don't think he's a Bruin next season unless he drops his demands on what he's asking for, but we'll see.

Brad didn't look behind on the Bruins because we are slow. That Panther team look to be on crack

It looks almost certain now that we will get a top 5 pick and that is some successful tanking.

The only question for me is, is this a one season tank and turnaround or will they run this next year for McKenna and a full on two season tank and complete rebuild. Anything is possible now.
