@DominicT have you written anything of late you can point me to that indicates whether this generational tag folks seem to have applied to this Schaefer is warranted
I have not. Sorry.
I will say this though: I have very strict idea of "a generational player". I didn't believe you could have two generational players at the same time, simply because of the definition, then Mario Lemieux came along. But to me, there have been only 5 generational players in my lifetime: Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid.
I don't believe Schaefer is a generational talent because you have guys like Makar.
I have watched him play going on 4 years now, since he played in the U16's while he should have been in the U15's. I got to watch Chris Pronger's entire 16-year-old season and I can tell you that Schaefer is the best defenceman I have seen at that age since Pronger. (Pronger played Junior B here in my hometown during his 16-yo season).
You have to remember, Schaefer is eligible for the 2025 Draft by just 10 days. He's that close to not being eligible until next year. His injury hasn't hurt his draft stock, if anything, it has hurt his ability to show that the gap should be wider from him to whoever is number two.
If the Bruins end up winning the draft lottery and SJ and Chicago are two and three, I think you could see a bidding war to get number one from Boston. And Sweeney should listen closely. He could make out like gangbusters and still get an elite center.
