NHL Draft lottery III - Bruins locked into 5th before ping pong balls.

It’s always difficult to craft a preview for Canada at this event because they often receive reinforcements after the tournament begins (and this report is published). This year is no different. As of writing this, the following is up in the air: A) The participation of the currently banged up Michael Misa, who has been with the team but not playing or practicing. B) The participation of the rehabbing Matthew Schaefer, who is likely shut down for the season. C) The participation of other recently or not yet eliminated CHL standouts: Jake O Brien, Cole Reschny, Ben Kindel, Cam Reid, Jack Nesbitt, Luca Romano, Landon DuPont, Keaton Verhoeff, and others. Some of those players may not be available, but a few will be.

Anton Frondell - F
The ride continues for one of the most exciting offensive juggernauts in the 2025 draft. Frondell brings a variety of weapons to the table but impresses most through his incredible maturity and solid decision making for a player his age. And, well, he just loves to generate offense. Having spent the bulk of the season putting up 25 points in 29 HockeyAllsvenskan games, he’s shown he’s able to play with some of the best players Sweden has to offer. Alas, he and his team have been so good that they’re now in the midst of the championship series and he’s sure to miss the tournament’s beginning, as he continues to hold a top nine role for his team. He’ll be a key once he arrives, and we just hope he won’t be too worn out when the time comes.

Radim Mrtka - D
If a 6-foot-6, 200-pound righty shot defenseman who skates well, checks like a bull, and can lead your attack with a solid first pass is your idea of a unicorn, then Mrtka is your unicorn du jour for this year’s tournament. He possesses everything necessary to take over a game. He’ll without a doubt be the go-to man for coach Cermak on the blueline and is one of the key reasons the Czechs are expected to be a medal contender.

Jackson Smith - Defense
Team Canada is going to need a lot from this smooth skating, two-way blueliner. With a strong performance at this event, he has a chance to solidify his position as the second best blueliner available this year. Scouts will be closely monitoring his decision making, but his upside is sky high.

Bruins remain at 5 or drop too 6, I think its wide open on who they may take and who'll be available, because after the top two picks its wide open on the order depending on who's list your looking at. McKeen list he has Jackson Smith and Victor Eklund in his top 7.

Everyones list will vary, and that could very well help the bruins, get the player they want, or make many say what the hell. lol

Sweeney should walk up to the Podium on draft night and draft Viggo Bjorck and tell everyone to deal with it. He's ours.

Kidding, obviously. Thanks for the links. Couldn't find rosters, should've thought to go to McKeens.

Speed, IQ, tenacity, passing. Eklund is the full offensive package.

I haven’t watched much outside of highlights but you have to consider he played on a line with Frondell and he drove it...Frondell has the better shot and capitalized on a lot of plays Eklund makes.

Eklund might actually be 4 for me after Hagens. I see a Jesper Bratt type of game to him. I get the need for center but I think the need for offense regardles of position is more important.
My priority is @ center. They can get help on the wing through free agency.

I could really see Sweeney going with McQueen, OBrein or Mrtka. That's if Martone is gone.

Schaefer
Misa
Hagens
Martone
Frondell
Desnoyers
Eklund
O’Brien

It has to be one of these players, right? It can’t actually NOT be one of these…
That's what I want. I could easily see Sweeney drafting Mrtka but that doesn't really do it for me. I'd love to get him a little later if we had an extra pick but for me I want one of the 8 on your list.

Martone will be top 5. The success of the Tkachuks and the possibility of him bringing that same type of character with high end skill, not to many teams will pass on him, imo.
I also think Martone will go top 5, but it's interesting to me people still mention either of the Tkachuks when it comes to Martone's game. When I watch him I see a smooth skating player with great hands, elite playmaking vision, and scores a lot of his goals around then net. I haven't watched enough of his games yet, but I don't see a guy that's overly physical. In fact, I think he leaves more to be desired in that area..

He happens to have a big body though, yes.

He also passes the puck really well through the NZ which isn’t exactly a Tkachuk staple

Sounds like Philly really wants Desnoyers. I think they will take him baring some miracle.

Maybe, but I don't think any team has made their final choice yet. And if a team doesn't have the #1 pick, they don't want anyone to know where they are leaning

I know people say he is Boston's guy because of how hard they are scouting him, and maybe they love him, or maybe he is one of the very few high end prospects still actually playing so teams are scouting him heavily

Then
Then Martone will be there someone big will be there at 6.
If we are at 6 we are choosing between the top guy that falls vs Eklund, O’Brien and any other risers. In theory at 6 we could have two of Martone, Desnoyers and Frondell left. It just takes one team in front of the Bruins falling in love with Eklund or O’Brien.
