Prospect Info: Draft 2025 - Waiting for the Draft Lotto

I've also read that the Sharks are entertaining trading down from 1st if they end up there after the lotto. Sitting 9th overall is probably way too much of a drop, but if this team had just done the end of the season (TDL onward) correctly, they could be sitting 4th and that might be within striking distance to jump up for a Schaefer or Misa.

Hope we get some draft day deals, those are always good for a bit of entertainment in an otherwise relatively boring day.
Every GM says that every year but no one ever does it. Besides, Schaeffer is exactly what SJS need. It would have to be a stupid return to get 1OV.

Okay that wasn't a dig at Eklund (or Martin for that matter). It was merely an exercise to further the debate of Eklund vs Martin and more importantly, the value we see in wing vs center because a wing has to be >>> over the center to get the nod if all else is equal. I think Eklund vs Martin is neck and neck right now.

Again, I think Eklund is probably a better talent, but is he THAT much better, or is Martin to sacrifice position? That's where my doubts begin.
I didn’t think it was. I was just answering the question.

I think outside of the d-men- Eklund probably brings the most value in terms of “what does he bring when he’s not scoring”

I don’t think Martin is quite there but he could be a big hitter.

It would be prohibitively expensive to trade up to #1 even had they lost a bunch at the end of the year and moved down to #4.

That's not what this team should be doing.

Yeah, I don't think I'd bother. There's really nobody in this draft worth going all out for in trying to move up imo. I know everybody's madly in love with Schaefer but I'm still not sure he's a can't-miss player or that much better than Misa.

I don't know that the cost would be like NFL draft levels of extreme, but again, I doubt the Pens have the surplus assets or the players available at the top make it worth it. It all depends on who the Sharks value in the top 4. Either way, just a boredom thought based on Grier discussing being open to trading down.

Yeah I think you're right, it's both that the guys at #1 aren't worth trading up for and the cost to trade up would be massive due to how far below Desnoyers/Martone are from Misa/Schaefer.

Manifesting this one last time: Pens win the 2OA lottery pick, draft Misa.

Misa joins the team as Malkin's wing next season, and slides to C when Geno hangs it up. His addition allows us to move one of Rust or Rakell for a LHD, while Karlsson moves out for picks and a W prospect that's ready in a year.

Pens raise cup in 2028, with Sid riding off into the sunset as he passes the cup to Misa.

Wheeler dropped his top-64 ranking today as well, here's his top-15:

1. Shaefer
2. Misa
3. Hagens
4. Martone
5. Desnoyers
6. Frondell
7. Mrtka
8. Eklund
9. O'Brien
10. Martin
11. McQueen
12. Carbonneau
13. Aitcheson
14. Bear
15. Reschny

It seems like there's a consensus top-10/11 being formed while it gets a lot more open after 10/11.

If they get Misa I think the decision to keep Rakell will make a lot more sense. McGroarty-Misa-Rakell could be a damn nice 2nd line in as soon as a year or two.

I hope everyone's doing their black magic routines for tonight. Would be sick to grab Schaefer or Misa

Martone feels like the main guy that's going to slide if guys like O'Brien and Martin get overdrafted, which doesn't make any sense to me because Martone still had a damn good season.

Did he slow down in the second half of the year? Yeah, but he still finished 7th in the OHL in points while being one of the best EV producers in the OHL. He had 28 goals and 66 points in 57 games at even strength this year, that pace (75 points in 65 games prorated) is closer to Misa at EV (83 points in 65 games) than Martin (59 points in 65 games prorated) or O'Brien (47 points in 66 games).

Martone shouldn't be going below #5, I think he should be going #4 over Desnoyers but I think Philly almost definitely takes Desnoyers at #4.
