Prospect Info: Draft 2025 - Waiting for the Draft Lotto

No way they're not going to take Martin if we get that NYR pick

I think Martin is a fairly likely pick even at #9. I think it only takes Eklund and O'Brien going in the top-8 for Martin to possibly be at the top of their list.

Eklund, O'Brien and Martin are the 3 guys that I feel like they really like in this class. Just a gut feeling I have.

Bobby Mac released a new top-16 rankings this morning:

1. Schaefer
2. Misa
3. Martone
4. Frondell
5. Hagens
6. Desnoyers
7. O'Brien
8. McQueen
9. Eklund
10. Smith
11. Mrtka
12. Martin
13. Bear
14. Aitcheson
15. Hensler
16. Lakovic

On McQueen:

McQueen may be the most scrutinized prospect in the Top 10.

He missed a large portion of this season with what was believed to be a back injury and then an unspecified lower-body injury, but he did return to play regular season (17 total - eight before the injury, nine after) and playoff games (three) in March. His ranking comes with a notable asterisk.

At this particular moment in time, none of our scouts surveyed said they would be comfortable taking McQueen where they currently rated him — eight of the 10 had him between Nos. 3 and 10 with two more saying they’ve already red flagged him due the spectre of injury.

The majority of those eight scouts who see the towering centre, if healthy, as a bona fide top 10 prospect said the final decision would ultimately rest with their team’s doctor.

On Hagens:

Boston College centre James Hagens, No. 2 on the mid-season list, is the only one who slipped, checking in at No. 5. Scouts seem to be more or less evenly split on the reasoning. Some say his play has tailed off; others say he was simply leapfrogged by Misa, Martone and Frondell; a few suggest it was a combination of both factors.

Does it really matter if his (Hagens') play tailed off this season? Should that not be more of a reason to draft Hagens, seeing as how he has already gone through some adversity/attrition? Did his talent level drop off at age 17? I highly doubt it. Does it not just mean that he isn't a finished product?

I struggle sometimes when players fall in the rankings. I often feel it is paralysis by analysis.

I would be tickled if Hagens fell to us...despite his Boston connection. :)

I think I'd prefer to get the Ranger's pick this year regardless. I'm not convinced Sully guides the Rangers to being an 100 point team next year as that roster has some question marks but I'd be surprised if they don't grind their way to one of the final playoff spots and get low like 90's points.

Plus from the perspective of trying to give Sid one last crack at it it would be good to get our draft picks in the system asap instead of punting on that by a year.

Even better would be watching them become the next Tage Thompson and Zdeno Chara and then watching the naysayers bite their cheeks every game.

I think the move there would be with Seattle. They are likely to get 6/7 or possibly 8. I think their system needs a dman most of all so you may be able to entice them with moving back to take Mrtka or Smith while gaining an extra pick. Problem I might see there is the late Washington 2nd may not appeal much to them and I don't see many trades where the additional pick goes to the next year. Not having our own 2nd this year really hurts if that's the goal.

Maybe the Was 2nd + Pens 3rd+4th to move that 2nd up to somewhere around 40-45, then 9ov+40ov for 7ov. Something like that?
we still have some players we need to move. imo

True. But assuming that next year's Ranger's pick isn't in the top 10 I'm going to hazard a guess that the Ranger's pick this year is more likely to make the NHL sooner than any pick we make with their pick next year.
