Prospect Info: Draft 2025 - Waiting for the Draft Lotto

I think the two players with the quickest path to the NHL outside of the top two are Eklund and Frondell. They've already been playing with and against grown men.
I would also put Hagens on the fast track in terms of getting to league. Pretty feasible to imagine him signing and turning pro at the end of 2025-26.

(being impactful may be longer).

No sir, just for stuff I cook at home like flat irons or something. No Filets. I also really like it with pork chops.

Oh well then yeah... this should just be common sense. A1 is actually really great IMO... but even I wouldn't put it on an expensive cut of meat and I'm a heathen. Though I suppose they are ALL expensive, now. And frankly I've always found most "top end" cuts to be overrated. I've always preferred a good burger over a steak, anyway. Or shit even a good chop like you just mentioned.

Flat irons have actually done me very well for a while, now. I just fork the shit out of them and drop 'em in a bag of simple marinade for a few hours before they hit the grill. Cook to just past rare and slice thin. Serve with A1 or horseradish. Shit now I'm hungry thanks lol

Im a filet hater. Good ones are good but they are really hard to get correct and as a result they can be very chewy, even if rare/med rare

My hot take is NY strip > Ribeye. I think the leaner cut allows more of that actual steak flavor, not just fat flavor. I like a Ribeye but prefer to cook them myself. Restaurant will take what is already a fatty cut and then bathe it in like a stick and a half of butter and the result is too greasy for me.

We might not always agree on hockey but when it comes to food...

I'm a fan of hanger cuts, for similar reasons.

I'm a big sauce guy. I probably wouldn't use any on a prime cut of meat like a filet mignon, but for something more mid tier why not.

I really like Pickapeppa. It goes nice with stuff like London Broil or other mid tier meat cuts. A1 is good too though. So is Worcestershire sauce.

Martin seems like he might be sneaking his way into the top 8 or so of the draft. Frondell seems to be having a mediocre U18s but nothing that will make him fall.

I'd like Martin with our pick but the more guys that move up into the top end of the draft the more likely someone else that's good still falls to us, so.

I would hope they don't make too many rash decisions on such a small tournament like the the U18s. The top scorer in the tournament is Ekberg, who has 9 goals and 16 points in 5 games. Meanwhile in the OHL, he had 45 points in 53 games and is ranked as the 178th rated NA skater by central scouting. Boumedienne is also lighting it up as well.

I'm not going to be mad if the Penguins get the Rangers 1st and they take Martin, but I would hope that the U18s don't have a huge say in it. None of Schaefer, Misa, Martone, Eklund or O'Brien are even playing in it.

I mean tbh with who Ekberg’s coach is in the OHL I’m kinda intrigued lol.

Idc about points… Martin’s skating looks way better than I thought. I thought it was borderline bad and it looks good. Was my one concern.

I’d prob prefer Eklund still but tbh after Schaefer, Misa, Hagens, Martone, Eklund, Frondell I like Martin as much as anyone. I like Frondell but also wonder if the upside is limited. I’m a full bore Desnoyers hater, even at 9th. I struggle with taking O’Brien but he’s ok I guess?

I think rn I’m hoping for one of Eklund, Mrtka, Martin. And Smith has moved slightly behind but is a fine swing.

I think Stenberg and Verhoeff both look insane. Both would maybe be my 2OA in this class.

Lin looks pretty good too. Kind of a guy that lets the game come to him.

will be interesting to see how the ‘26 class develops over the next 14 months but it honestly does look good, at least at the very top.

Unfair as it may be, I can't help but compare prospects to current NHLers when they were prospects. Desnoyers and O'Brien look like Kotikaniemi and Glass doppelgangers to me. Smith reminds me a lot of Broberg as many have said. I worry on Martin, Eklund, Frondell all end up being nothing special depth forwards. I just find this draft appears to have a lot of high floor/low ceiling prospects.

I really like that Desnoyers and Kotkaniemi comparison on paper, and I've said that O'Brien does give me Cody Glass vibes as well. That said, I think Glass really got hurt by having injuries early in his career and could have developed into a good middle-6 center had he stayed healthy.

I don't think it would be really all that surprising for Eklund to turn into Kapanen 2.0. That's still a useful middle-6 forward (well before he fell off), but it wouldn't surprise me if Eklund ends up being another guy on that McGroarty/Koivunen level rather than better than that.
