Prospect Info: Draft 2025 - Waiting for the Draft Lotto

I say this a lot with big guys - if he were 5'11 or 6'0, would we still be talking about him? Zohorna would not have played one NHL game if he was 5'11.

McQueen screams Michael Rasmussen to me. Not that its a bad thing but Rasmussen is rounding out (or rather topping out) as a bottom 6 center (maaaaaybe middle 6 center). Now if we had a new Sid and Geno down the middle, taking McQueen to be our long-term 3C would make sense. Right now, nah.
Point 1) prob day 2 but yes imo. He’s got great hands and is engaged physically.

Point 2) I do not see this comp at all besides “big WHLer”

Is a pretty reasonable comp really. You can use the Hockey Writer reports as a decent apples to apples. There may be others but I'm not going to do that leg work for you.

Size is comparable
Position is the same
League is the same
Role as offensive center is the same
Offensive skills are largely the same combining playmaking with goal scoring though McQueen is better in tight areas and appears to be a bit more agile compared to Rasmussens more north-south style but.
Both had(have) skating concerns but I do think McQueen looks a tad better.
Both had(have) an injury history with McQueen's being a little more excessive.

It's not perfect comparison but the idea of "he's big an not much else" and worrying he might only reach bottom 6 center potential is exactly what Rasmussen did so...I think it's fair.

Maybe watch the players

Baby Pens lost momentum with injuries to both clubs and movement. But they did accomplish more than they have in last 3 years. Now with off season to get the S&C program for the younger guys and working on continued development as they mature will pay nice dividends down the road. Add in next couple of drafts and lots of players to add and develop.

Watching highlights of a few top prospects, Martone to me looks a lot like a young Corey Perry. He even wears the same number in junior hockey (94). I wonder if Perry is someone he patterns his game around. BTW, being compared to future HOFer Corey Perry is one hell of a compliment.

When I watched Hagens, he gave me both Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes vibes. He is kinda in between both stylistically.

I don't see Michael Rasmussen when I watched Roger McQueen. Much more Tage Thompson than Michael Rasmussen.

Anyway, I am still on team "draft a center" all things being equal.

where we are at, i can see someone making the case for a number of players. so if the team has someone picked out, they need to move up and get him. no need to set back and take the scraps. imo
we need quality over quantity
