Here's the thing. The Rangers aren't exactly a young team. When you reach your expiration date you're only going downhill from there. I tend to believe they have reached it. There would have to be a seismic shift IMO for them to stem the tide. If they wanna defer that pick so be it. It could be anywhere next year, but my money would be they'd miss the playoffs again. It's not as if they were ravaged by injuries to key players. Other teams just have caught up to them. A coaching change could help but...I'd personally rather get the Ranger's pick this year. I don't believe they'll be any worse next year, and I think there's a strong chance they're better. Drury is going to pull out all the stops to be competitive next year assuming he does hand us the 2026 pick.
A coaching change can go a long way and I have to imagine Lavy is gone. Here's the thing. The Rangers aren't exactly a young team. May 7thWhen does the lottery take place?
Shesterkin getting back to elite status scares me. He's good enough that even if all else fails, he could carry them to a higher pick next year. Here's the thing. “A coaching change can go a long way”…looks around to see if FSG is listening and shrugs…A coaching change can go a long way and I have to imagine Lavy is gone.
It will certainly be very interesting monitoring them next year if they hand us that pick.
Sure, it's possible, but I'd bet against it. He hasn't been elite since 21-22. I think his best days are behind him. I'd be very nervous however if I were part of the Rangers faithful.Shesterkin getting back to elite status scares me. Sure, but Kreider's not even half of a 50g guy anymore, Panarin's production dipped, Zibanejad's production dipped, they have abysmal depth, their blueline's a mess beyond Fox. This might just be closer to what the Rangers are than not. -edit- And the cap jumping is already eaten up by raises to Shesterkin and Lafreniere.Shesterkin getting back to elite status scares me. Yeah, I pretty much want them to punt for the roll of the dice that the team craters like the Bruins did. Think you're probably ending up with a similar caliber prospect whether it's the 11th this draft or ~20th next year, but the potential that the team is as bad or worse, and potentially another shot in the draft is the tipping point.I've become pretty much entirely indifferent on whether the Rangers 1st comes in this year or next year. If it's this year, they're probably getting someone like Martin or Smith with it, who feel more like #15-#20 caliber guys in a normal draft. Even if the Rangers bounce back a bit into a 2nd/3rd in the Metro caliber team, their 1st at around #20 will probably have a prospect that's not much of a downgrade on who they'd be getting at #11 this year.
If anything, I'd be looking to trade down with the Rangers 1st to pick up another 2nd rounder to get another prospect. I like Lakovic, Smith and Martin at #11, but I'm not like in love with any of them.
i'm rooting for the habsAs a minor quibble, the Capitals, Wild, and Senators pick positions will change depending on the playoffs. If the Wild and/or Senators make it to the Conference Final, their picks will be a few spots later. If the Capitals don't make it to the Conference Final, their pick will be a few spots earlier. I think that probably, the Wild and Senators picks will be about where they are, but the Capitals will end up being earlier.
Also, if someone like Montreal, who is ranked lower, makes it to the Conference Final, and the Wild and Senators don't, that could push the picks a spot earlier, but that seems even less likely.
Beat reporter for the Sharks. Pretty reliable in the past. Not sure who Sheng Peng is but they’re reporting SJ will listen to offers.
Depending the ask it might make sense for us if true.
Ryan Kessler if he makes it?McQueen if he is medically sound is a big hit or miss here. He may be the kind of center that just never elevates his skills. Or he matures and adds the size and strength to be a force around the net. If he is there at 9, draft him. Pens need to get a center and if O'brien is off the boards as are the other top centers, he is my pick.
If the Rags give us 11, and he is still there, sure.. I'm not taking him with pick #9I am now advocating for drafting McQueen
If Schaefer, Misa, Martone, Hagens, Eklund, O’Brien, Desnoyers, Frondell are all picked by 9 I would consider McQueen 9. And I’m still not sure that McQueens upside isn’t way higher than someone like Desnoyers. If the Rags give us 11, and he is still there, sure.. I'm not taking him with pick #9
Before the draft. Not surprising but I don't know if that's a good or bad thing.
Can someone clarify on the conditions of the pick? Is it 48hrs BEFORE THE DRAFT or 48hrs AFTER DRAFT POSITION IS KNOWN before they have to decide?
