Finished up the Brady Martin tape. I think the basement here is so high its on the first floor. Like there is no basement. He's a good skater, plays with energy, loves hitting. Bare minimum you get a bottom six energy guy. And the ceiling might have some high potential if he can get a little better with his decision making. Sometimes he dangles himself into some bad situations or right out of a play completely, but I'd rather that than someone who lacks the skill to work themselves into those situations to begin with. Engaged in all three zones, though. One thing that is super important to me is how much the actions of a player that doesn't have the puck change the scope or trajectory of a shift. That is Martin's specialty. My favorite shift in this mix is the one where he destroys both defensemen and then goes straight to the front of the net and there's no one there to cover him because he laid waste to all the people responsible for it.

If we have a 2hd pick in the 1st round this is who I'd wart.

Eklund hits everything that moves, if he was 6'0" and 190 lbs he'd be a menace out there.

I mean he’s 5’11 and he’ll likely play at 180+

I feel more confident his physical game will translate than I do a guy like Aitcheson. Not even kidding. Every truly physical player (during the course of play not after the whistle) in the NHL needs elite size or elite skating on top of desire for contact. Eklund has the skating and desire and will be a meatball with a low center of gravity once he’s filled out.

Not saying he’s gonna Kronwall dudes or be Tom Wilson, but I think he’s gonna separate guys from pucks with his body.

Literally my lone concern with Eklund is scoring upside and he still may have it. It’s just hard to tell with him in a pro league at 18.
My only concern is that injury is gonna be a brutal comeback.
Completely agree. I’d have Bear top 10 without the Achilles. Now I think he’s mid-late teens guy.

I've seen him listed as low as 5'10" and 152 lbs. Really not sure what his weight would be.

The height is fine but I'd want his weight to be more in the 185-195 lbs range for me to not be concerned about his durability.

I think any reasonable GM would give up the 2025 1st and keep the 2026 1st, unless the Rangers win the draft lottery. If the Rangers are the same or worse next year, they'll be able to keep an equal or higher pick in a better draft and actually properly start a retool, which I think they'd do if they have another shitty season. If they're better next year, they won't really care about trading the 1st for Miller and can use that 2026 1st as a trade chip to make the team better in the short term.

The problem is that the Rangers aren't exactly known to be a reasonable team, so who knows what they're going to do.
Why would Drury keep the 2026 1st if he's worried about getting fired before the end of next season if they miss the playoffs? It isn't reasonable from his perspective.

Why would Drury care about keeping the pick this year if we're going that route? Any prospect they'd get this year is years away from having an impact.

The only reason I can see Drury keeping that pick is to trade it for win-now help, like when JR let the Zucker pick slide a year only to trade the protected 1st for Kapanen. But I don't think Drury is looking at the situation like "all that matters is 2026, I don't care how I hurt the franchise after".

Currently seeing Viktor listed in publications at 5'11.

For reference, William was listed 5'10 in his profiles and has settled at 5'11. Always possible Viktor settles at 6'0. With some effort in the weight room, he could possibly be of decent size when fully filled out.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they traded their first this year for immediate help. I'd actually be surprised if they didn't try to work a deal with Tampa on Howard using that pick.
He seems like a rather ruthless GM given how he handled Goodrow and Trouba. I don't think he'll have many reservations outside of those ownership puts on him at doing whatever is necessary to keep his job.

He checks the boxes for a slightly small guy. He’s a great skater so has escapability, seems has the frame to carry more weight and therefore strength (vs a beanpole Marcus Pettersson/Jake O’Brien body type), looks like a kid still (aka isn’t done growing), and hasn’t shown an injury issues to this point.

Anything worrying past that is just fear, which I’m not interested in. You can talk yourself into anything with fear. He could have knee problems and be injured forever and it have nothing to do with his size.

On this particular matter I wouldn't want to be in Drury's shoes. TBH I'd be happy with either option as I think the Rags have reached their expiration date barring seismic changes.

Penguins win in regulation:
9th
: Guaranteed (Penguins win tiebreaker w Ducks on ROW)
8th: N/A
7th: N/A

Penguins win in OT/SO:
9th
: N/A
8th: Guaranteed (Penguins lose tiebreaker w Ducks on RW)
7th: N/A

In short, regulation win, we get 9th. Extra time win, we get 8th. Any loss, we get 8th or 7th depending on Sabres. We hold the regulation win tiebreaker with the Ducks, and they hold the Win

I don't think this is right. Unless, I'm reading the tie-breaker wrong, the Penguins can NOT fall below the Ducks. Even if the Penguins win tonight, that would tie them in points, but since the Ducks have more wins in regulations (which is the tie breaker) they finish ahead of us.

Penguins need to lose and they get 7th.

I've been indifferent with what they do with it. All I know is I'm happy they fell lower so they have a tough decision. I never understood the Penguins fans who were rooting for them to win games to get 14th-16th (that would've been the worst possible outcome).

If we win tonight in regulation we'd have the same number of RW's. We have more ROW's. thus we'd get 9th.

No, the worst possible outcome is if they made the playoffs, that would have pushed their draft pick down to 17th or worse.

Philly has got to lose in regulation. It's just too relevant for them to move up easily and let Buffalo win in regulation.

I don’t know hockey as well as the NFL but do they handle sexual assault cases like the NFL?

Panarin being suspended to begin next year would be another added boost to that Ranger first round pick next year.

No and no. Rangers hired an independent law firm to investigate and the NHL is taking no further actions.

My only concern is that injury is gonna be a brutal comeback.
I was super high on him for the Rags 1st but that injury soured me. Not that he can't comeback from it and still do well but a slice Achilles is a big red flag. I'd much rather take Lakovic or Carbanneau. If we had a 3rd late 1st, I'd take him in the late 20s.

My general thought here is - IF Drury is going to be removed, it will happen BEFORE that decision on what to do with the pick occurs. Now, if that pick goes to 26, they suck, and it turns to McKenna...they might fire him on principle.

I would take Martin over either of those two as I prefer a center to a wing. I also think Martin beyond his progression this season and skill is a heart and soul guy. Pretty solid all around. At that stage in the draft Carbonneau then Lakovic would be 3rd or 4th on my list. Bear would have been 1st or 2hd but the injury concerns me also.

If the Rangers gift us McKenna, and he is anywhere close to being as good as the hype, I imagine every single person in that organization is getting fired.
