In a perfect world, the Pens get some lotto luck and jump up to 2nd to snag Misa or Schaefer without using a lotto win. Realistically, I hope they settle into 5th or 6th and a couple teams above them go off script and go after guys like Frondell, McQueen or Desnoyers a bit early, letting someone like Martone or Hagens fall into their lap.
I'm pretty sure that'd count as one of the 2 wins in 5 years. I'm not sure if it's only 1st overall wins.

They are already sitting at 8th. If Anaheim wins in regulation today, it makes it impossible for Anaheim to finish below the Penguins in the standings.
Anaheim has to win in regulation tonight for us to be guaranteed no worse than 8thOA pending the lottery. That would wrap that scenario up tonight.

Is that how it'd work? No idea. I definitely wanna be able to luck into McKenna and Dupont if it comes to it, but I'm not gonna say no to a free Misa or Schaefer. You definitely want to win one or both of the next two lottos if you had the choice, but hypothetically, landing a top 2 pick in this draft and crossing off one of your two lotto wins is fine imo.

Still, stars aligning, you'd definitely prefer to end up with one or both of McKenna and Dupont, while tacking on somebody like Martone or Hagens falling into this team's lap.

Easy, we win this year, NY wins next year and we win in 2 years. Profit!

I want the Rangers' pick to end up the one taking McKenna because it would lead to the hockey world going f***ing nuclear. The reactions alone would be worth it, let alone actually getting McKenna.

-edit- Clarity; The Pens getting the Rangers' pick that wins the lotto to take McKenna.

There's nobody in the 20+ range next year I even remotely care to draft, if they are even a #5 to #20 next year I don't care who's there. That's how bad next year's looks to me. It's McKenna or the blah leftovers.

I'd be tempted to trade both picks if neither isn't top #1/#3, that #8 to #10 next year isn't worth the time.
There's always time for the players next season to play better and move themselves up the rankings. Sort of like how this season was originally thought to be just four players, but then the season played out and everyone realized, oh, there's 4-5 more decent players after them, and then 4-5 more decent players even still.

Mike Sullivan’s fuming in here. Good for him. Said Tristan Jarry was the only player who showed up. He’s right, and not just in the criticism. Jarry was really, really good again.

I’ll have a full column. Not about this game, obviously, but about the Penguins and defending, in general.

I’ll also have a Drive on Vasily Ponomarev.
Lol, from Dejan.

Yes, Mike, THIS is the game that cost you a playoff spot, you ****ing knob.

Gotta root for Anaheim tonight. No Mackinnon, Makar, Toews or Drouin for the AVS.

Final home game let's go DUCKIES!

I've stated that I would give the year for it to upgrade to a better draft, but right now, I don't see it.

Buffalo winning tonight would have been great because it would really put the Penguins in the driver's seat to pick #7, but oh well. Anaheim can lock the Penguins in at #8 or above with a win tonight, hopefully they can do that.

The Penguins pick seems to basically be #7 or #8, with an outside chance at #5, #6 or #9. #5 is pretty unlikely, it requires all of:

-Penguins lose against Washington
-Seattle wins against LAK
-Philly gets 3 points against Columbus and Buffalo
-Buffalo gets 1 point against Toronto and Philly

I could see the Penguins getting up to #6, but #5 seems to be super unrealistic and #7 seems to be the most likely outcome.

IF ANA wins REG.
