Prospect Info: Draft 2025: Is it too late to tank? Asking for a friend

Take O’Brien w your 1st. If you get the rangers trade it and a 3rd for Howard!
has he committed 100% to another year at Michigan State? If Howard is available for that, that is a better use of that pick and would fit Dubas vision more.

We likely will end up 9-11th and OBrien won’t be there…Boston and Caps don’t care about winning and for some reason we do lol, no matter how stupid…it’s not like ending the season well means anything for the start of the next season as we’ve seen… sad

I think Philly is going for a center no matter what, team needs to fill that need and Briere is stupid and will reach for whomever. So that's one team that might let a better player slide past them.
Feel like they're taking Frondell or Desnoyers. Especially with the latter getting comparisons to Couturier. They need a C moving forward.

100% Correct! O'Brien we'll very likely be taken right before we pick.

Can people take literally 2 seconds to look at the NHL standings before they start wailing about how the Penguins draft position will be bad? The Penguins can get a maximum of 82 points with winning their last 2 games. The teams around them are:

-Philly: 75 points, 3 games left
-Buffalo: 76 points, 4 games left
-Anaheim: 78 points, 3 games left
-NYI: 80 points, 3 games left
-NYR: 81 points, 3 games left
-Detroit: 81 points, 3 games left

Since all of these teams have the tiebreaker on the Penguins in terms of RW, they’d all need to have less points than the Penguins to pick above them.

The Penguins are going to pick something in the #6-#9 range, with an overwhelmingly most likely case of #7 or #8. Their draft position has been very consistent and I have no clue why people have to make up stuff to whine about when it comes to it

Philly wins in a SO! 2 points! And they, lol, eliminate the Isles from the playoffs. First time in a LONG time I've cheered them on. But man both teams are pathetic.
We really could have used The Isles to win that game actually. No chance Philly is catching us.

Why would you root for that? That's the exact opposite as to what we wanted.

Because the hope is that they would have played poorly enough to drop to number five in the lotto or better. Might not make any difference. But winning these games will make absolutely zero positive difference to this organization so that's why fans are complaining about it. Because there's at least some negative downside to winning these games and zero upside.

That has nothing to do with what I was talking about. Non-stop saying “the Penguins are most likely to pick #9-#11” is ridiculously easy to disprove by just looking at the standings for 10 seconds.

You can be disappointed that their pick won’t be #4 or #5 without just making stuff up to complain about.

If they win the next two in regulation they could jump all the way back to number 10. Not sure if number 11 is possible, but the point remains there's no positive whatsoever in winning these games. And if you look at the trends of the last 10 games, only Buffalo has been better out of the bottom 12 teams in the league. Not that that's saying much because these are all terrible teams, but it's not encouraging for draft position either.

Yep. Also we have the easiest schedule of any team. And we KNOW Sullivan will go balls to the wall. Isles are without their top two goalies and just got eliminated.

Beyond the points you gotta look at each teams remaining schedule. Apparently some here are conveniently overlooking that.

Any of Detroit, NYI or NYR need to win 1 more game for the Penguins to be drafting before them. It’s a ridiculously unlikely scenario to happen, it’s more likely that Philly jumps them in the standings and pushes the Penguins to #6 than the Penguins win out and somehow end up picking #10 or #11.

Their draft pick is going to be #7 or #8 most likely. It’s the same it has been for weeks.

That bumps them to 77 points with two left. We have 78 with two left. The Isles have 81 points with two left. It's far better for Philly to get two points than the Isles.

We want a lower seed. Philly passing us is the best way to do that vs hoping the Isles stay ahead of us. Buffalo has 4 more games, and I assume they leapfrog us. That's puts us and Philly in competition for 6/7. Them getting 2 points today makes it a legit "race" now.

It was absolutely more beneficial for a 3 pt with Philly winning vs the Isles. The best case scenario happened.

The thing that sucks is if they'd just lost 3 or 4 more games in regulation throughout the season, they'd be sitting in the top 5. Margin for error's way too thin to be doing stupid shit like passing on trading Rakell at the TDL and going on some dumb, meaningless (detrimental) heater to end the year after you've basically been eliminated for a month.

That's the difference between potentially landing a Martone or a Hagens, and ending up with like, maaaaaaybe Eklund. Maybe, if some team(s) ahead of the Pens do some dumb shit and make reach picks for McQueen and Mrtka due to their size.

No, the Isles have 80 points not 81 and have a 3rd string goalie who's getting torched. Philly is not catching us ok. You don't think it's likely we win out against BOS and WAS who are resting their players?

Isles have NJD and WAS

Philly has OTT and CBJ and BUF

We have BOS and WAS

I don't think schedule strength and who is resting who matters all that much here.

ETA: I didn't realize the standings updated on the NHL.com that fast. Philly has 75 with 79 GP. 3 behind us but they have perhaps the softest schedule of the three.

So the Islanders are playing 2 teams that are going to be resting players, so they’ll easily get another win before the season is over if we’re being consistent with the logic being applied to the Penguins schedule.

The Rangers play the Lightning and Panthers, another 2 teams that will be resting players for the playoffs. Guess you can chalk up 2 wins to them too.

Wings have the Stars, Devils and Leafs. Same exact logic there.
