Prospect Info: Draft 2025 Habs you're on the clock

Habs want Jake O’Brien but I don’t think top 10 will trade their pick.

We can trade to move up to 11-12 but that will land us Bear or Martin. I think both Martin and Bear are the kind of players we need. We already have skilled forwards, we need grit and Bear and Martin are both Gallagher like but bigger.

I don't think O'Brien looks like their type of pick at all. Perimeter, PP merchant with very little inside game.

I would take him with our pick at #41. If we only have one of the picks (either #16 or #17), I would not pick him at 17. But if we would have had a late First round pick instead, he would have been my pick.

I'm still mulling over if I would take him at 17 if we also kept our 16.
We could package Pens 2nd with one of our 3rds to move up and draft Prokhorov.

No they pretty much all have flaws in their own way but not all flaws are equal. Carboneau's flaws are he doesn't use his teamates, questionable hockey IQ, and relying on making highlight reel plays that just won't work in the pros. He has a lot of great tools which is why he's highly ranked but he'll pretty much have to completely change his game if he's going to have success. It can happen but I wouldn't take that risk given the other options we are likely to have with our pick(s).
After reading this, I would still like they pick that player, lol. He looks like an interresting player to developp, unless he is completely closed mind, not wanting to change his game. I would like to read a reliable source about his hockey iq and use of his teamates. Here in Mtl many fans liked players who were champions dangle and not using their teamates like Kovalev, Galchenyuk, Gallager,Tatar and Laine. Physicly he have the proper frame and primary qualities required (frame, speed, not afraid of dangerous places and hell of a shot). Maybe not perfect top 6 material but a pefect 3rd liner. On paper he seems more interresting than KK, Galchy and Drouin. But other options might be better too. Weal see.

Dekes makes the clips but we know dekes won't work vs pros so he's dissmissed quickly by some.

He's poison around the net and his shot from mid range is lethal, both skills that project very well.

This highlights package is great we can see him improve as the year progress.

would they hype be a wee bit higher for this young dude because of the last name?

I haven't read/heard anything about his coachability so can't comment on his willingness to change but my personal opinion is that it's often hard for a player to change their game even if they are open to it just because so much of it is habit/instincts which are difficult to break.

To say he's more interesting the Galchenyuk/Drouin is a bit odd to me, Carbonneau isn't as good of a prospect as those two were which is why he isn't being considered as a top-5 pick like those 2 were. But obviously that says nothing about whether he will end up having a better career. Carbonneau is definetly a swing for the fences type of pick so I get why people would want to make that type of pick, I'm just not convinced it's the right call given who else is potentially going to be available.

It's hard to dismiss that player after watching his highlights. His shot is lethal, he can do nice back hands shot to score too, magic hands as they say. His skating and change of direction is not a problem. His frame looks solid. But this is just highlights.

I just like this player a lot. I really don’t know where Prokhorov will be picked. But in all the Jumbo (6’3”+) forwards, the only one I can say with certainty will have a better NHL career is Martone... Not McQueen. Mostly because of his health, but to me, he edges Prokhorov only in being a Center and how good he is on the PP.

If it wasn’t for all the complications associated with him being Russian, Prokhorov would be taken more seriously. I think he’ll have a better career than Lakovic who’s not offensively gifted enough to have absolutely no physicality to his game.

PS: For what it’s worth Pronman ranks him #12OA for his 2025 Draft playoffs skills ranking. Basically his same ranking as usual (Schaeffer, Martone…), but slipped in Prokhorov near the top. (Behind Paywall)

WTF is that goal calling — the guy is screaming so loud he’s experiencing convulsions and busting eardrums. Worse than the Castrato on Spanre. 💀

Best to watch without sound.

I had no sound at all so I didn't know about that, It's true sometimes the description is crappy and there is the new IA voices that are sooo boring.

I personally would be satisfied if Habs draft two of Cootes, Hensler, Carbonneau or even Nesbitt with their 16-17th picks.

Those are realistic expectations afaic.

If a Bear, Martin (won't happen, he's top 10 material) or maybe McQueen falls to Habs, of course I'd be thrilled.

P.S.: Lakovic I'd be ok cause he's tall and has skillz.

But I'm not fond on his overall dedication and intensity.

He's big but don't play a physically engaged style.

But at 6'4" and able to skate, his reach and puck protection skills could surely be something Habs could use in the future.
