Prospect Info: Draft 2025 Habs you're on the clock

Indeed, “Plan B” could well be called Brady Martin.
This 18-year-old center is turning a lot of heads heading into the 2025 draft. At 6-foot-1, 178 pounds, Martin has 33 goals and 72 points in 57 games this season, but it's not just his numbers that are impressive.
That's his style.
Martin plays with a fierceness reminiscent of Sam Bennett. He hits hard, he hits often, and he does it intelligently.
Seen importance of players like Bennett in this Leafs series. Don't want to invest in players like Laine or Dach. They don't have the compete. They have great skill but don't care if they are there or not. Playoffs are a long two months war.

Warming up Ryabkin too. Perfect mix of skill and attitude.

You can't teach that personality.
Ryabkin might be the surprise pick the 2025 draft, IMO. Slated anywhere in the later first round (20th OA and later) to completely out of the first round, could Montreal trade it's two second round picks and, even, one of next year's second round picks to move up if Ryabkin is still available nearer the end of the first round, like they did to pick Hage at 21st OA?

Ryabkin has the upside that least become a solid role player as a checking third line C, à la Carbonneau from back when.

He might also be one of the top-3 playmakers in this year's draft and could find instant chemistry with Demidov because of shared skill sets they can easily identify.

I'd take this high risk/high reward gamble beyond our 16th and 17th OA picks by trying move up to the late first round to nab him.

If you want him you just keep the 17th overall pick and take him there.

You can take a ‘’risk’’ with him while having another player with your 16th pick.

He just needs to realize that the big boys in NA are machines. Can't come into pro hockey being a pudgy boy (only Ovy can). Something tells me he's more Fowler than Yakupov.

The interviews will be very important for him.

For sure, the combine and interviews are gonna be very important for him.

Getting in great shape will help his pace of play and motor. I honestly don’t remember this problem for him before this season.

Left handed center with high end skills and some grit. Exactly what the habs need.

You're right, Skip.

Just take him with the 17th OA, I guess. I just thought that Nesbitt, Cootes and Ryabkin, with the 16th, 17th and by trading up to the last third of the first round would be a stellar way to shore up our Center prospect pool in one single draft, to go along with Hage already in the system.

Then again, PHI is likely to draft Ryabkin with the 23rd OA to perhaps play him with Michkov. Nabbing Ryabkin with our 17th OA would prevent that and, perhaps, allow us to nab another C prospect that might slide.

Trading up might work and I agree with you but if you like his talent just take him at 17, in my opinion.

He’s 100% more talented than most of the guys you could get mid first round.

Like I said, Ithnk that Skip and you are probably correct. Picking Ryabkin at 17th OA may avoid PHI picking him before us, although they are steeped unpicks and could likely offer up an interesting package to pick before us at 16th if they really were longing for Ryabkin.

Moving up by trading 2nd rounders could still be in play, but for another player slotted higher who manages to slide low enough to pull it off.

First, really not a fan of this year's draft. First intention is to at least trade 1 if not both of these first pick for the 2nd C we're so desperate for.

BUT, if we do go in with full intention of drafting ;
Hopefully O'Brien falls just enough for us to trade up to grab him. If not, maybe Carter Bear falls to us due to his nasty injury. Then with the 17th I'd go Martin, Ryabkin, Carbonneau whoever is still available, in that order.

Brzustewicz if he's available with one of our 2nd,

Goalies : I'd keep an eye on Lucas Beckman. He goes down a little too fast but the rest looks pretty solid for his age. Langevin opening some eyes too with his recent performances.
