Prospect Info: Draft 2025 Habs your on the clock

Matheson is the contract dump. And the two picks are in a garbage draft at a spot where all first two tiers of players will probably all be gone
Good Lord some of these comments are just beyond stupid. Yeah a contract dump is playing 25mins a night and you should go ahead and let all the scouts know there is no one valuable outside of top 5.

There is value outside the top 5. But not the type of value that the habs need. Bolstering their prospect pool isn't a need and they have almost too many picks so utilize asset management to leverage they for what they really need. Also I answered replies to the Matheson sentiment already. It's not literally a cap dump. It's just the only contract with value that can be used in a trade to take on a big contract. A literal cap dump is someone like Gallagher.

It's like when Gallagher - Danault - Tatar was our first line. I was hoping there would be a day when they would be our 3rd line. I would be very happy with Matheson - Carrier as our 3rd pair, to say the least:

Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle - UFA RD
Matheson - Carrier
Ekblad/Fabbro are the only UFA RHD top 4ish worthy this year.

Unpopular opinion but if they feel this draft is not good enough, I hope they trade one or both 1st round picks in return of 2026 1st round picks. And if the new picks are top 10 protected, we might even get additional 2nd round picks to sweeten the deal.

Why doing this? To extend our window. We have a lot of youngsters in the pipeline already and cannot sign everybody anyway. Drafting 2 first round picks in 2026 means you still have 1st rounders in their prime in 2036 and you don't have to give them their big contract until 2030.

I believe you can multiply draft picks by agreeing to delay your picks by one year, if you find GMs that are eager enough to overpay to pick NOW. This way you continue to have multiple drafts picks even after the team starts to be successful.

I think Hensler goes top ten
If that happens it is a sign it is a very weak draft.

Kid never showed any offense.

That kind of 2nd pair D usually gets drafted in the late 1st/2nd round.

He's no Jake Sanderson.

Odds are he's a NHLer but spending a top 10 pick on that is questionable.

At least Aitcheson, while a LD, is physical and scores in his draft year.

That is the kind of thing I'd do with 2-3 of our 2nd or 3rd rounders.

You want those at the deadline when you feel you are ready to go.

Problem is there is a big gap between a surefire mid first and a possible late first next year, no matter how weak a draft is.

Things are more murky between #40 and #60 OA.

What do you guys think of the Russian center:

Ivan Ryabkin

I wanted him last year. This year not so much, poor skater, not big enough, low compete. For russians, I have a crush on Limatov and Zharovsky though in the 2nd round. Both have insane potential. Limatov could be the next Nikishin and Zharovsky has some Panarin in him. Both are fun watches.
I think we can afford to go for homerun picks. I like this draft more and more, a lot of players are going to be available in the 3rd round that have some good talent. It's just the first round that is a bit boring.

this is just for fun.
I know its easier after the draft is over, but interesting what we all see in guys
dont worry you wont be held to the name you like if the habs dont get him

I like Martin too
or
Desnoryers flashy not sure on this grit though

Oh no, i will but I was also being tongue in cheek. I'll name my targets after Bob's final list, strong indicator of ranges.

Everyone is like WE MUST TRADE EVERYONE

View attachment 1027223

But personally i think we must be very cautious.

COuple of years ago NYI were in a very good spot. They had 22 years old Barzal, 27 years old Nelson, 29 years old Lee, 29 years old Bailey, 22 years old Beauvillier, 25 years old Devan Toews, 28 years old Leddy, 25 years old Pelech, 24 years old Pulock, 19 years old Dobson, 24 years old Sorokin.

They got to the semis in 20 and semis again in 21. With Dobson, Sorokin, Barzal and good vets future looked bright. Then they decided to trade EVERYONE. Traded a 13th overall (Nazar) for Romanov. TRaded a 1st and Raty for Horvat. TRaded a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Pageau, Traded two 2nd and a 3rd to dump Andrew Ladd's contract, Traded a 3rd for Engvail.

The end result? They have to rebuilt again 5 years later. KH must be very cautious. Don't trade everyone and make sure they players you acquire have at least 4-5 more years of prime left or are very cheap.

Great precautionary tale.
