Prospect Info: Draft 2025 - Everyone is trading up, but no one seems to be trading down edition

Can't trade the 32 year old having a career year, on pace for 40 goals cuz he's shooting at like 150% his career rate, in an insane seller's market cuz then we'd have a "woe is Sidney Crosby" moment. Speaking of Sid, can't rest the guy for the final half dozen games of the season with a nagging wrist injury since the 4 Nations cuz that's not how we do things.

At least they seem to have finally gotten the memo that the era's been dead and buried, and it's time to work on the next chapter. Remains to be seen how they accept the message though.

Bringing this in from the salary cap thread because it's most appropriate here. What I decide to do in the draft depends on how it plays out:
  • If Hagens or Martone is there at #8, I offer #11 and #12 to Seattle for #8 and Tampa's 2026 1st. I work out a deal based on that if Seattle wants more. If Hagens and Martone are both gone by #8, I'm not trading up and waiting to see how the board looks at #11.
  • If there are 2 of McQueen, Eklund and Mrtka available at #11, I take 2 of those guys. Ideally one of the centers and Eklund, but I'm fine with one of the centers and Mrtka or Eklund and Mrtka too. I had O'Brien here as well but I think there is almost no chance he falls to #11 at this point.
  • If there is only 1 of McQueen, Eklund and Mrtka at #11, I take whichever one is available at #11 and trade down at #12 to get an additional 2nd rounder. Probably something like #12 for #17 and #41, where I probably take Reschny or Kindel at #17
I'd rank my ideal scenarios as:
  1. McQueen at #11 and Eklund at #12
  2. Trade up to get Hagens/Martone at #8 and get a late 2026 1st
  3. McQueen at #11 and Mrtka at #12
  4. Mrtka at #11 and Eklund at #12
  5. Eklund at #11 and trade down from #12

What do you want them to do, tell Sid no you're not playing? Can't see that going over too well.

Do hope they manage to move Rust and/or Rakell before the season starts though. Value will never be higher.

That "we don't need to move Rust, we may wait" report from LeBrun makes me think Rust is absolutely being moved at the draft.

I've said a bunch that I'd like to keep one and trade one this year, and I'm still sticking with that. Prefer to keep Rakell and run with McGroarty-Crosby-Rakell on L1, while selling high on Rust because it seems the interest in him is huge.

How does the organization decide which player they're going to select at 11 and which one at 12? Who gets their name called first? And will 11 lord it over 12 for the rest of his life?
Who they pick at 11th OA may prompt a team to try and make a deal with them depending who it is. I'm sure they'd keep that in mind if it comes down to it.

"Looks like I'm in line for the restroom first, number 12. Guess your turn comes right after mine. Like usual."

"Of course I'll introduce you to her. Sean Avery-style, number 12. She was my last girlfriend."
