Prospect Info: Draft 2025 - Everyone is trading up, but no one seems to be trading down edition

I realized that when I posted it, I think the main difference is that you're gaining an extra pick in that case. But I understand your comment entirely.
I think people are getting way too hung up on size for the Fs. Marchand is not big. Nor were Point or Kucherov. Or Crosby. Or Marchessault. And so on. Even Sam Bennett is 6’1 193.

D-men I can see why the mobility and size thing is a big deal. If we’re talking 5’7 Fs… yeah I don’t want them unless they’re exceptional.

But Cootes, Hagens, Eklund are all 5’11 and bring adequate frames and good compete/intensity. I don’t see the issue.

I remember Filip Forsberg’s draft year he was a consensus top 3-5 guy and then he suddenly fell. He was my pipe dream pick and ofc we ended up drafting an undersized LHD with a drinking problem. Thanks Ray! (RIP)

I'm going to wait until the Rangers decide what to do with their pick before I say it's my "official" prediction, but my current prediction for the draft right now is:

1. They trade Rakell for a late 1st+, probably to LA for something around pick #24
2. They draft Eklund at #11, Aitcheson at #12 and Kindel at #24
3. They use one of their 3rds to trade for a younger depth LD that they want to play in a bigger role, someone like Jayden Struble from Montreal.
4. A bit bolder of a take, I think they draft a goalie with one of their 2nds or 3rds

I'm already writing the essay. Rdy to paste when we do pick him. Most overrated prospect by far this draft.

I understand it but I see the appeal if Aitcheson pans out that I can't really be mad about the pick. If Aitcheson pans out, he's a unicorn type of defenseman. It's just a huge if.

He's not the guy I'm hoping for, but he's a guy I can completely understand why the team would take.

I’m going out on a limb and saying 2 defensemen besides Schaefer will be picked in the top 10.
Just a hunch.
Whichever ORG's do that should be mired in futility for the ensuing 10 years.

I could see the Kraken do it. They got plenty of pieces upfront.

I'm going to laugh so hard if after all this debate, Dubas manages to somehow trade for the 4th overall, and then drafts Frondell, just because I swear that's the one scenario that somebody on these boards hasn't predicted at this point.
Not a big Frondell guy TBH! Although he's much better than the defensemen being bantered about!

Yohe, and I know it’s Yohe, said the Penguins believe the Rangers will keep this year’s pick…if so, Drury is a moron…I’m fine with that as a Pens fan but I think the pros-cons highly favor giving the Pens the pick this year unless the Rags have a trade offer they want that requires that pick…outside of that, the better arguments all favor giving us the pick this year…

He's a project as his current game won't translate at all. He needs to play with pace. But I see more offensive skills than McQueen, Martin, Desnoyer, Frondell. I also see the risk if he never improves his pace where he'll be a complete bust like Cody Glass 2.0.
I'll take my chances witrh JOB over those absurd defensemen.

JOB won't be there though, he'll be gone.

If he believes his team will be better next season which seems likely, he should keep the pick.

That in and of itself doesn't make him a moron. He's fighting to keep his job. He needs wins now be it on the ice or via the draft or trades.

Agreed. He would be a disaterous pick at that stage of the draft. And if Kyle did that, he should be relieved of his duties!

He can't be THAT stupid. Although he is the same GM who called up the kids which gave the team a spark and went on a run to significantly hinder our draft status, so who knows.

No, he shouldn’t keep the pick even if he thinks his team is a bleeping SC contender: 1) a pick is the 20s next year in a much better draft is equivalent of #12 this year, if not better; 2) chance of not making the playoffs and handing the Pens an unprotected pick; 3) if the Rags are much better, can use the 2026 pick at the deadline to improve the team, rather than foregoing trade opportunities in the future; 4) can use the pick for an offer sheet; 5) some great trade materializes this summer and you can’t participate bc you have no first in a desirable draft…idk, I think it’s dumb not to give the Pens this year’s pick and tie your hands next season…but whatever

Drury is in a very precarious position though. He's not worried about the long term because if he has a bad year he's gone anyhow. That bein the case that '26 1st means nothing to him.

Following up I'm not so sure I agree with that statement. We don't know how 17 yr olds will develop from this year to next. I'd rather pick 12th THIS year, having lots of info then say 24th next year with far more uncertainty.
