Prospect Info: Draft 2025 - Everyone is trading up, but no one seems to be trading down edition

I looked into the story from last Sunday about the Rangers already deciding to give us their 2025 pick. The Hockey Writers podcast were misinformed or jumped the gun or simply thought the pick automatically went to us for whatever reason.

I think we all knew this but I just wanted to clarify. I still think we will pick back to back.

Two players I am starting to like with the second of our picks (assuming we get Eklund or O'Brien with No. 11) are Cole Reschny and Bill Zonnon. I like their profiles and I do think we should double down on centers if at all possible.

i don't think there will be two centers left worthy of that high of a pick. hopefully we get one, and a very good winger. but we all know anything can happen.

He’s so similar to Suzuki it’s actually odd he hasn’t gotten any Top 10 hype tbh.

I'd put Reschny above Kindel, however he'd be in the fray beyond that.

I feel like Kindel is a Wes Clark type prospect for sure.

I thought that, but I also thought Aitcheson and McQueen wouldn't be Clark type prospects and they at least took them both to due diligence dinners. Lakovic is another one I figured they would have a lot of interest in.

I think Kindel would be a reach and given our system is devoid of basically everything them focusing on a player that maybe isn't as boom or bust in Aitcheson / McQueen makes sense.

If we have 11th and 12th, wouldn't be shocked to see us add a 2nd to drop down and take Kindel tbh.

There is a rather large group of players all bunched together. They should call this draft the Tour de France draft. Because the peloton is massive.

I'd be fine with it, but I'm not particularly impressed by anyone that we will likely be drafting besides Eklund if he somehow drops.

McQueen and Aitcheson should be shot into the sun. Relative to other options I don't want either!!!!

Sure, I will. The Panthers are the modern-day Islanders. Truly COMPLETE teams. And then the Oilers came around and exposed New York and the Isles dynasty died.

Somebody is going to come along and knock Florida off their perch. I nominate Montreal (unfortunately for someone who lives here like yours truly). Mtl has already had success beating Florida during the regular season. That's a start. Now, when they get it figured out, watch out.

This Florida team is a perfect storm. And supremely difficult to duplicate and replicate. But what happens when Bob is gone? Everything has a shelf life.

Once upon a time, the Detroit Red Wings looked unstoppable. And then they stopped winning.

Those Islanders teams were so good. I first started going to games at the Civic Arena in the late 70's and it seems like half the games were against them. The Pens would go up and retreat to defensive shell and the Islanders would always come back and win.

It's going to be quite exciting when the McDavid to Pittsburgh trade is announced. I still remember when I first heard about the Coffey trade... I knew at that moment that the Penguins arc had changed forever.

I'm liking Cootes more and more. Looks like a Cirelli kind of guy, not high-end offense but productive enough and invaluable because of his all-around game. No questions about his skating.

Not at 11, but maybe if we have a later pick.

I don’t want to reach for a center at #11 if the best guys available there aren’t centers. I’m obviously hoping O’Brien falls, but Kindel at #11 would be entirely too high.

I would support trading down with someone like Montreal, something like #12 for #17 and #41. At #17, you can rationalize drafting Kindel. #12 is too high.

LL is someone I'm really warming up to. But I have no personal rankings or lists of these draft eligible players.

I like Lakovic’s talent but I hate his work ethic and play style. I’ve grown super weary of him despite his skill level.

Feels like Anthony Mantha 2.0.

Reschny reminds me of a draft year Yager but left handed, smaller and without the same shot. His playmaking and IQ give him both good offensive ability, relative to his league, and a good positional 200 foot game. I don't know if he has enough of anything else to get me to want him in the top-15 vs his contemporaries. Also don't like his skating for a 5'10 player.

Zonnon being an early birthday player for this draft and already having his "man" body helps him be effective in the Q. He has some skill and soft touch ability and also plays a responsible two way game and hounds on the forecheck. Haven't even really looked at him as much of a 1st round option, just seen some clips here and there and noticed him as a big, fast body getting on pucks. Curious if he has enough skill to be a driver or top-6 complimentary player vs a bottom 3-6 energy player.

I'm hoping for a trade up. Don't think ill end up being enamored with who we* end up taking at 11, and even less so what we do with back to backs.

Reminds me a lot of Sam Steel

I think there are redeeming qualities there too though.

Only way I think they should move down is if there is a deal in place like 2 2nds for a 1st or Howard.
