The organization obviously wants to have Brodzinski up with the club and with Andreoff and Clifford coming back soon there just wasn't a spot for Dowd. Which I'm fine with because he was shit all season. He's one of the reasons why we acquired Mitchell and Jokinen; he just couldn't get the job done.

I'm honestly surprised we got someone 5 years younger with a lot more potential than Dowd had.

Doesn't hurt that he's a right shot defensemen either.

Not a bad move, didn't think LA would get much for a pending UFA 13th forward.

Would not shock me to see Subban get some shifts on wing in Ontario. 22 yr old can skate and shows NHL caliber offensive instincts. Try him on wing and point on the PP. OR have the coaching staff clean up his defensive zone, cuz it's not pretty.

Has issues moving the player from the front of the net and does not have the stick skill level to tie up that player's stick with his. Played as the "offensive dman" in his pairing with Utica, but his point totals at the AHL level are not awe inspiring. Project for Ontario, with some upside potential at forward.

yeah that's my read on this too. sucks to lose dowd cause he has some skills but he just couldn't get it done defensively so he couldn't crack the lineup. definitely gonna get a chance with vancouver.

Subban is fortunate to be coming to our development staff for any reason, so I'm stoked to see what kind of refinement he can get.

Agreed on Dowd, he might have the best off-the-boards vision on the team, he was just such a train wreck on this side of the red line and with the turnovers in general this year. But he's not good enough offensively for the top six, not good enough defensively for the bottom six. But I loved his grit and willingness to compete.

Dowd would at times make the dumbest passes and try to handle the puck out of the zone, leading to turnovers.

For a period of time, he appeared to be a productive, creative playmaking center who could fill third line center duties, but then he’d fall into bad habits of trying to stickhandle around opponents which would more often than not lead to counter attacks and glorious chances for opponents, and he became frustrating to watch.

Sadly, he is to be more like another Linden Vey type. Amadio will have a bigger opportunity to make the team out of camp next year as well.

Dowd was a curious case. When he was first called up beginning of last season, he looked so promising. Then he just became vanilla. Has Subban ever played wing in his playing career? That might be an interesting experiment.

Especially the habs board. They've been talking for a week why Doughty is ungrateful and that Subban is better.

#4 in goals for D-men last season in the AHL isn't exactly shabby, eh? #17 overall in points in a 30 team league also not too shabby eoither. last year was an AHL All-Star in his 2nd pro season. He won't set any fires defensively, but if they want to make him a PP specialist with spot duty on D the Reign may have something.

I like that Blake is proactive and making these depth trades during the year as the opportunity presents itself. For example, Tory Mitchell and Jokinen are not going to make or break this team, but they added just the right amount of boost our bottom 6 needed after the Clifford-Shore-Lewis line got broken up. Also, the Subban trade is a little risk, potential good reward deal. We were not going to resign Dowd anyways, and I am sure Blake tested the market to see the best deal he can get. There probably weren't many takers, and Vancouver will give Dowd a chance to get playing time. In exchange, the Kings get Subban who is basically an experiment with some offensive upside.

Brent Burns flipped back and forth a few times. A junior defenseman, he transitioned to wing as he started his pro career. Moved back to D near end of his time in Minnesota, before moving back to wing to start in San Jose (mid 20's I'm guessing). Then moved back to D later on before emerging a prominent defenseman.

I wouldn't say a transition to wing is impossible, but perhaps not the most likely. His upside is as a Marc-Andre Bergeron type defenseman, a #7 that excels on the PP. This is last year of waiver exemption, but I doubt that matters too terribly for him he will have a couple more years at AHL level to see if he can take next step.

His point totals the last two seasons in the AHL are outstanding. Not sure where you are coming from with that. His numbers this year aren't great, that is true, and it seems like he has been scratched according to the Nucks fans. I agree that forward he might get a look, especially since we already have 3 RHD (although Roy is out injured right now). I can see him as an RW and point man on the PP (which has been terrible this year).
