Value of: Dougie Hamilton

Habs could sure use a Veterant RHD , since Savard is unlikely coming back.
But that contract at that age humm not sure he hold that much value.
Could Beck + 2nd 2025 start the talking ?

Florida may be interested if Ekblad walks in free agency but NJ would have to retain a bit or Florida needs to send salary/player the other way.

He'd easily be worth a 1st + 2nd or a teams 3rd best prospect to even get the convo started.

I love Dougie and what’s he’s done in NJ so far. I can see the benefits of trading him though. Maybe after one more season but then that risks another injury and another year older. His 10 teams will probably make a difference. I would assume the Canadian teams are in his no trade list but maybe he’ll waive for a team that is competitive.

Maybe the Isles make sense if they trade off Dobson. Keeps him in the area which he chose.

Hard contract to move, but 1st pair RD are always in demand. Any other teams with lots of Museums in their city looking for a 1st pair RD?
I don't think it's a hard contract to move in the offseason, there are teams that'd be looking for a top pairing RHD that can effectively run a PP

He's a really good player, not overpaid, the Devils are trying to win now, and they don't need the cap space
I agree but Hughes has shown that they don't need to be spending 9 million on Hamilton anymore. Devils right side is also pretty loaded with Pesce, Kova, Nemec, Casey and Hamilton all fighting for 3 spots.

It's an expensive contract and he can block trades to 66% of the league. I doubt New Jersey has any interest in retaining on him too. I think if you are looking for a RD to run the powerplay it may cost less to acquire EK65 this summer, and Pittsburgh would probably consider retaining too

Who are they going to be spending his $9M on instead though, Brock Boeser?

Efficiency on a per-contract basis is obviously good, but it's very easy to forget that it's not about having the most efficient team, it's about having the best. Hamilton is much better than any other player(s) they'd be spending that money on

Doesn't need to be spent on a single player, having more depth sure would be nice.

His trade value is freeing up the cap hit and giving the spot to Hughes. So the value is whatever anybody will offer where you don't have to keep cap.

What is NJ looking for? Would a Matheson + required assets to meet the value swap work for the Devils? He would look great next to Guhle.

I mean the idea is nice but the reality is that they would almost certainly turn around and use that money to keep Cody Glass and sign whoever this year's versions of Palat and Dillon are in UFA.

Once again the idea of "we'll have all this cap space and assets to go out and get another great player who fits in better" is great, but as we've just witnessed with Carolina it's very difficult to actually go out and get that player. Doubly so when there are so few teams actively tanking and triply when every team except Dallas is going to have significant amounts of space to work with this summer.

I don't see a trade scenario where the Devils end up better off next year, and that's what they should be focusing on

Whiskey is a known Hamilton critic.

You’ll find most Devils fans don’t actively want to trade him, but recognize their RHD depth is crowded, so Dougie is expendable and still good enough to return a solid asset(s) while clearing some cap space. I agree though, I think they’re better off keeping him. Whatever return they would get for him would not match Dougie’s current on ice impact and be a downgrade in that sense. The team is better with him in than without him in the lineup and should be going all in to win.

It's too hard to say, given his 10 team trade list (not ten team NTC) and it's unknown how eager NJ is to retain salary to maximize return. Very real chance his 10 team trade list has zero teams willing to take him at full salary for future considerations.

I don't think there is one player that would magically fix their depth issues, but 9 million worth of space certainly could.

Moving off Hamilton either this offseason on next would be ideal.
