Anaheim makes a lot of sense.
Not really. His compensations is higher then his cap. He makes over 10 mil. Not to mention the Ducks are just as stacked on defense for the future as NJ is.

If his contract was a couple years shorter or structured differently I would be more interested.

What would NJ want in return because I'm not sure who can afford his cap and also is looking to win now.

He’s potentially out for the rest of at least the regular season. Let’s see how he comes back from injury. He only makes sense as a trade target from a team with some extra cap that is looking to compete and that needs pop on the blueline. I can’t see any of the rebuilding teams making an offer.
buffalo might has a need for a rhd and they also had a lot of cap space. but with both dahlin and powers signed to rich long term contracts they probably wouldn't commit to dougie's cap space. retaining him down to digestable cap hit for multiple years defeats the purpose from devils pov.

hamilton probably wouldn't lift his nmc anyway. there is nothing to discuss.

I'd do that all day long.
I don't know how willing Dallas would be to move Lindell (also has a NMC) but Heiskanen-Hamilton would be gross and from what I can tell he wouldn't cause much of an issue with their payroll. Bridge Lundkvist and Harley, Benn expires next season in time for Oettinger and Johnson extensions.

Is this not the forum to post things like this? I'm very sorry if it's not.

It is but you know full well you’ve gotten pushback on your proposals when they are not in line with what’s reasonable. This post is about two years too early. He’s out for a while maybe the whole season. Why post this now? It’s silly and will just invite scorn from fans who wait for that sort of thing. Again this isn’t your first rodeo.

1. What hockey fans on this forum think/say is reasonable is hardly ever accurate with reality. For example, if Zadorov for a 3rd and a 5th was proposed, Flames fans as well as other fans all would've said it's not nearly enough. If Meier to NJ for Zetterlund, Muk, Okhotiuk, 1st, 2nd was proposed, you know damn well the response from EVERYBODY would've been "too much quantity, not enough quality"

2. Sure, this post is early because of his injury and only 2.5 years through a 7 year deal, but it's certainly not out of the question that NJ looks to move Hamilton this summer. Might be a better idea to move him sooner while he has decent value, than wait 2/3 years and have to pay to get rid of his contract.

3. Why post this now? Why not? Bored on a day off from work and wanted to gauge what teams fanbases may think Hamilton would be a good addition to their team.

4. I don't see how asking the value of Hamilton would invite scorn. Its an innocent question.

He’s injured and won’t be back for quite some time. He’s got a NMC and a big cap hit. He’s essentially untradeable right now. If you are just bored and looking for ideas so be it but it’s unlikely anything in the way of good discussion ensues because of all the factors discussed. Hamilton seems pretty happy with NJ so it’s hard to see him waiving for any trade anyway. Given the contract structure and trade protection the contract is more or less set up as a five year contract. This is year three. It’s just way premature.

Yes - I know he has a NMC.

With emergence of Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec in NJ, Hamilton has become an expendable piece. These teams strike me as potential destinations that could be interested in Hamilton.

- Anaheim
- Arizona
- Calgary
- Chicago
- Montreal
- Philadelphia
- San Jose
- Seattle

What could NJ get for him? Assuming he waives his NMC.
No from Montreal. Doesn't address a need or fit time frame.

Dougie was defensively playing poorly but was putting up a lot of points before getting hurt. Nemec is definitely making a lot of Devils fans feel like we don't need Dougie... but he's on a huge contract and he's not going anywhere. Having Hamilton-Marino-Nemec down the right side for years to come is insane. Let's not make any crazy decisions.

The left side is where the upgrade is needed if they can get someone better than Bahl/Siegenthaler.

Damn, we have a new good young defenseman signed for 2 more cheap years after this.

What should we do? Definitely immediately trade a current, very good defenseman that the team would absolutely struggle to replace!

Or, bear with me here, the Devils could instead simply have both

Dougie might be out for the year. Anything like this would happen in the off-season, if it were to actually happen.
